100 Shares of Wipro in 1980

Let me give you the one example of the power of the long term investing and the power of the compound interest. Well, Here is the power of the Long term investing and the power of investing in the multibaggers.

This is a True Example.

One Shareholder has invested Rs.18,000 in 100 Shares of Wipro in 1980 during it’s Public Issue (IPO). Today after 30 years, according to current market price of Wipro Shares the 100 Shares of Wipro in 1980 are worth of Rs.374 Crores after adding Dividends, Bonuses & Splits…..!!!!

This Shareholder is from place called Amalner, a small tiny town in Jalgaon District... where Wipro`s mother industy is located.

This is the power of compounding and investing for the long term in the fundamentally strong companies. Just tell me that how many people had subscribed the IPO of Wipro? Probably hundreds of thousands of people right? But How many of them stay invested in the same stock for full 30 Years? Well, Only 1 Person. And that 1 Person has made a fortune.

Many of you will argue that, but this is purely a luck. But well, this is not the luck, This is the best example of long term vision. If the fundamentals of the company don’t change than it’s not the time to exit from the company. So believe in long term investing and believe me, you will become financially free over the time…

(I Have posted this before but since there are many new members, i thought it would be useful for them. Cheers Very Happy )

Well said Rappaport. In my personal experience I also been benefitted holding long.

However, our Sri Lankan market is in the hands of manipulators at present. It is a very sad situation. Fundamental shares are going down day-by-day whereas useless crap shares are rocketing.
Eg: RGEM, HVA, EMER, HUNT, REG and many more. It's been happening every week now. They pump the price and dump. There is no strict punishment for manipulation in Sri Lanka as the people involved in this game are real big shots.

Further, There are many overvalued IPOs which takes out the entire liquidity of the market. Peoples leasing IPO will be a big disaster both for the market and for itself. It is a very big share issue worth 7 BN and it will make the entire market suffer for another 2 months. It's a very bad time to enter for them. You will definitely be able to buy it much less than the issue price in the open market. I can really bet on this.

As a result, investors are frustrated and move their funds to other alternate investments.
I too moved some of my share investment and went for secure deposits.

We only can ask God to save our market from the manipulators.

in sri lanka , do we have have companies like wipro, tata etc, such companies a have a true growth story.they are doing a real business.
if you stay with such companies you will win.

in sri lanka the main business of many companies now is selling rights and warrants.if you stay long term your investment get diluted over the time and vanish.companies have forgotten the main core business and now engaged in easy and lucrative business of rights manufacturing.

That is only one side. Generally this is correct.

But a company can go completely bust in 30 years. There are examples of that in the world.

So generally long term investing is the best. I am too believe in that. However you have to constantly monitor your investments and review.
