Why would Laugfs Holdings divest 10% of LGL ? Buyer is EPF...

What is the strategy here?

Experts please let the forum know your expert opinions.

Now EPF has 17% of LGL. Almost all acquired at current price levels or above. With the transaction prices came down due to panic selling.

But the positive side is, since now government is having a considerable say in the company, more chances that their plan of acquiring a bunkering license will become a reality.

I feel with this developing conditions, LGL share price likely to rise from tomorrow, the same way as TESS,BLUE

did any one considered Fridays crossings
1. 746000 @ 50.40
2. 2.5m @ 49
still not clear who is the parties involved.

Its a positive news that gov institutes are coming back to the mkt. this will not only encourage other privet funds but also foreign funds.
Now LH got fresh cash of 1.7b. what they gonna do with these money.
1. expanding exiting capacity of their gas business
2.exploring new opportunities in other sectors, heard that they gonna enter into bunkering business.

10% stake mean huge amount, now epf holds around 15% of LGL, they dont invest blindly. no doubt LGL is a future gem.

Now we have to assess the immediate effect of LGL share price with this 10% acquisition. this acquisition will be brighten if LGL can produce good SEP quarter results, i hope they might.

Dear Windi5,

"Now LGL got fresh cash of 1.7b. what they gonna do with these money."

This statement is wrong. Because EPF bought LGL.N is from Laugf Holdings, the main shareholder of LGL, the private investment arm of Mr.Wegapitiya. Those funds will not come into LGL unless they went ahead with a fresh share issue such as a rights issue.

But Laugf Holdings may use those funds for other investments, may be in the market. Laugf Holdings bought GRAN.N at Rs.214/- and current price is Rs.110/-. They bought PHAR.N around Rs.3,000/- level and current price is Rs. 1,600/-. They may opt to collect and average at current prices. Or they may opt for other attractive shares.

But one thing is sure, they are not going to keep those in FDs.

LH will decide where they gonna invest those money, whether to expand the existing gas business or anything else. no need to go for a right issue when there investing arm got money to invest for further expansions in LGL.

LGL is one of my favorite. But, without ASI being green LGL will not go up.
So, who ever jumped into LGL recently, better hold on to LGL till we see some dark green days...

If EPF starts buying further shares LGL from the market, this will rise even in dark red days

Still LH is holding more than 50% of LGL. there is no barriers how n where they gonna invest these money. Ppl invest on there business by obtaining loans, so why in this world thy cant dispose 10% of share of the same business and invest again. coz 50% profit goes for them.pl go through that post and read, that was one of suggestions otherwise they can go for an alternative.

LH & LGL are 2 different entities. 10% sold to EPF is a property of LH. Even they holding more than 50% they wont invest single cents to LGL. If they are investing as a loan it's a different story.
May be they'll buy back LGL from the market below 45 Wink

I don't think that they will buy. If EPF or some manipulator start buying from the market price might go up. My personal Idea is We have to wait till the September quarter financials. But I don't think quarter financials also much attractive coz September was already past LH should know the financial position. If they have a good quarter results & they are expecting price to go up will they sell at 48? Unless they have any cash requirement/another investment plans.
