Although ASI appreciated by almost seventy units for the day so far, my portfolio does not show any sign of appreciation.

In this market trend, there is not much difference whether ASI goes up or down. Ultimately those who stick to fundamentally strong shares suffer.

(Un)fortunately my portfolio is filled with fundamental shares.

What is wrong….

Is it my choice of fundamentally strong shares instead of “fun the mental” shares?

Is the index ASI not properly representing the market fluctuations?

Is it relating to the abnormal behavior of the market these days due to Manipulators and other traders (not investors)?

Learning curve on stock market trading is not at right direction as long as investors do not recognize worth counters. Such valued companies should initiate continuous program for updating their business strength & opportunities educating the investors. Much cannot be expected from authorities in the near future as they are dipped under water with mighty hands.

One thing wrong in our mentality is understanding the fundamentals. We think it's with the companies which are reporting good results currently and past. The prestigious companies! But things are changed now. Most of small companies which are called penny stocks are expected to do well in the future. As they are having different management teams and with re-drawn strategies. But some of us still can't believe this change.

Think about the finance sector. Growth of small companies and newly listed companies will definitely outperform the rest, not in future, but in the current quarter itself. At the end, this growth will reflect in the share prices.

Will Insurance Corp. will buy “Blue” and “Tess” just to make a fancy rally in the market. What they are doing is helping different management teams with reliable strategies in hand, to turnaround those companies, which will help the economy. Take an example “LB Finance”. When Dhammika Perera acquired LFIN, it was not a fundamentally valued share (The way people interpret it). But the story today is different. Those who believed and analyzed the actions of the new management made about 10 time of their investment in couple of years.

So everything lies with the interpretation. We should change the way we think, and should have a balanced portfolio. I believe, most fundamentally valued share is the one with most promising growth prospects, not the one which reached the maximum growth. Why DOCK is not moving beyond Rs.300/- even in a bull market. It has touched the maximum growth. To go beyond this, they have to make new investments and increase capacity. So if you invest in DOCK today you will get about 10-12% return. But if you invest in a new company like COCR you may get a 100% return. So where the fundamentals lies? It's our thinking pattern. Other factor is, these traditional fundamental shares are mostly with foreign holdings. When they are in selling side, it’s impossible for those shares to be appreciated. But if they become buyers, these shares will go up, as they like big companies with much liquidity.

We must change our thinking. Definitely new blue chips, EXPO, SHL, VONE, etc. will outperform traditional blue chips.

If u are invested in fundamentally sounds stock then u are safe.It is like working in the safe mode.U can not get quick profit. It is less risky and less profitable.U should have the holding power and very good patiency.

What are the fundamentally strong shares, what is the fundamental valuation of those shares ?

Dear hariesha,
You are perfectly correct. Most of the reputed companies have reached their momentum. Therefore investors are now turning to new companies which has high potential to grow fast. They expect higher return from those new ventures than what we can expect from matured companies.
