Having a Strike bowler, Malinga makes the difference. I cannot understand why Sri Lanka is not taking the next power play now. 53 to win eleven overs, New Zealand in the same group against Kenya had a better run rate.

Sure, we can easily score 400 against any Garandi team in the world cup. There are so many high scoring games seen here on a daily basis. England scored 327 against Ireland, they did the same in the match against India, and so many batting sides performing well in the competition. India is also capable of scoring a high score in each game. So, everything depends on our batting performance, ability to maintain a good run rate, and how well our team is going to make use of power play. We can easily win the world cup, if we are capable of maintaining a run rate above six against Aussies. Good luck on Saturday.

this world cup won't be won by batting, it will be won by bowling. The best bowling side will win the world cup. It's pretty apparent that unless you have a good bowling side to back you up any target is chaseable. so who ever has the best bowling will make the difference.

Yes we need strike bowlers. Problem is all are capable of scoring high scores against any bowling side, and the preset world cup format is designed to help a good batting side, there is a batting power play. So far we do not seem to make use of the power play effectively. Kenya match also ended without making use of the entire power play. Power play needs to be taken while aggressive batsmen are in the crease whose strike rate is very high and they need to be batsmen rather than bowlers. Unlike down under, most of the grounds in the sub continent are good for batting.

The opposition today took the government to task on the allegation made against few Sri Lankan cricketers of fixing the world cup match against Pakistan last Saturday. The allegation was made against the Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardena and Tilan Samaraweera in a program telecasted by a state owned TV channel

The main opposition UNP called on the government to tender an apology to the cricketers while the JVP also condemned the allegation made by the state TV.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said in a statement that the government should tender an apology to the Sri Lankan cricket team.

Mr. Attanayake said this kind of allegations would tarnish the positive image which the Sri Lankan cricketers have established over the years. “This would also diminish their morale, “he said.

He said the allegation cannot be taken lightly as it had been made by a state TV channel.

Meanwhile JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath told a news conference that the party would vehemently condemn this act carried out by a state TV channel. He charged that the government takes credit whenever the Sri Lankan team does well while they come out with false allegation when they lose.

Ireland is at 229 for 5 against England... needs 99 more to win in 84 balls. This looks like it's heading for a major upset - or at least a close finish.

Yes, Ireland play lot of backyard cricket, they also play English County Cricket. We have a lot to learn from them, we also can take the batting power play around 20 overs and send Chamara Silva and Chamara Kapugethera to try and reduce the required run rate, others can come and finish the job.

Former Test umpire Darrell Hair has delivered a World Cup bombshell by revealing several ICC match officials believe Muthiah Muralidaran is a chucker - but refrain from calling him in matches.

In a shock development before Sri Lanka's World Cup clash with Australia tonight, Hair - who first called Muralidaran for throwing in 1995 - said some of cricket's leading umpires have privately rebuked the spin legend's controversial action.

Former ICC panellist Hair also said Muralidaran continued to chuck and did so several times in Sri Lanka's 11-run loss to Pakistan last Saturday.

Despite being called for throwing by Hair and Ross Emerson, Muralidaran was able to resurrect his career and is embarking on his international swansong at the World Cup after a 19-year career.

But before Muralidaran's showdown with the Aussies at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Hair said he and Emerson were not the only umpires who believed the spinner's action was still flawed.

"A couple of current umpires have said to me, 'Something is wrong', but they prefer to let it go," said Hair, who quit the ICC's elite panel in 2008.

"There is still a lot of doubt about his deliveries.

"A few have told me, 'There is definitely something wrong with his action, but I'm not going to call him'.

"They are the ones who have to live with that.
