Hi Guys,
Asia Capital announced their dividend 6.95 per a share. Share price is nearly 73 rupees. The XD date on 2nd December. I think the dividend is good. I am going to buy 10000 shares from Asia Capital. Is this a good idea or not? should i keep my money in the bank until January. pls let me know your thoughts.

Yes it is a comparatively good dividend almost 10% of the share price at the moment. They must be having cash since they sold AAIC recently. I don't think it is wise to buy in just because they are giving a big dividend, there is a high chance of price to fall after XD date.

Other than that I'm not aware of company fundamentals but it has a trading range of 80 to 90 (Roughly, from what I experience lately). But this time it has come down below 80.

Godswen you are correct. It is a massive dividend if you compare there cash flow statements.

Good one Sri as usual Wink..

According to the following news, ACAP had 70.95% in AAIC in aug 2010;
http://www.cse.lk/cmt/uploadAnnounceFiles/1981282563476_363.pdf

As per the following news, ACAP had sold its 30.2% & its subsidiary's 22.97% holding, total of 53.17% of AAIC to SHL.
http://www.cse.lk/cmt/uploadAnnounceFiles/5981313138092_363.pdf

Also I couldn't find any pf the earlier dividend announcements since 2009.. So it means they've not given divs..

This has hit a lower price of 65.5 on 22nd Nov, the day before div announcement and on 24th went to 77 high trading 190K.. This has again come down to 71-72 lows on 25th, the day the trading had to stop for 30 mins due to MPI dropping to 5%...

As godswen said, the fluctuations are mainly due to Div.. So if this has not reached 80s before the XD date, it can come down to 65-70 range again on XD date..

Invest wisely in this hard time..

If you look at past good dividends, if you buy after the announcement, most of the time after the XD date you would end up with a loss. I have tried this and it doesn't work. If you buy 500-1000 shares, you could try to sell on the XD date, but buying 10000 will definitely give you a loss.

Don't take a risk, buy 1000 if you really want.
