Turnover wont be high when day trading is discouraged. Long/mid term investors are not dealing frequently.Hence long term investors can do very little for increasing turnover and volume. When the day traders reduce thair transactions turnover is naturaly thin and indices would gradualy go down. This is what we experience now. We all like to see vibrant market with higher turnover and large volumes. To achive that trading ppl sould be facilitated by ensuring availability of cheap and easy credit and flexibility in the market.Over regulation has discouraged day trading and naturaly turnover has come down drasticaly. Untill such time day traders are encouraged to revert to the market we cant expect a large volumes and high turnover and also a solid upward turn.

I hope new managament of SEC could understand this situation and take appropriate action to bring the market back to more active.

IMOH following factors need to succeed in the day trading.
1.Liquidity of the stock-
2.Volume- (means daily turn over quantity)
3.Volatility-
4.Price Transparency-

Now the question is,whether in future we can find all these in CSE totally?
My answer is CSE needs time.
Open for comments.

It's not a question about credit. Don't take credit for every problem. Next when company profits decline in the next few quarters brokers will say that's because of credit restrictions. If a broker get a stomache he'll say it's due to credit restriction.
The one and only problem is the transaction fee.
Calculate the percentage of how much the share price should go up in a day for day trading. What is the amount? I think it's about 1.4%
Now think in a normal stock market can you predict the price of a share appreciate that much with a good probability? That's only if you don't want to make any profit. It's like offering money as broker charges. Unless it's a pumped share or if you know inside information it's impossible.
Even if you sell at the bought price you're going to lose 1.4%.
Does having more credit help in this case? No.
Broker charges must be slashed not by a bit but by a huge proportion.
That's the only way to encourage day trading and improve the liquidity.
I repeat credit won't help.

You are very true Rajaraam, unfortunately some people fail to understand this reality. I believe most of the day traders are small investors and now their funds would have become much thinner. Hence there should be some revival in funds.
It's true that transaction fee is also a factor to consider.

What about transaction costs of other markets ? Brokers won't allow reducing transaction cost at any cost. We are paying broker charges for nothing. Only for using their software. No service or advice at all.

To facilitate day trading I think the authorities can introduce "spread betting" (no brokerage fees) or CFD like in developed countries. (same as forex trading)
Again the question is our market share volume is enough for these kind of instruments?

Please read this link to get basic idea and the google for more advanced techniques.
I'm not recommending but I'm telling this also one way the SEC can think in future to facilitate day traders desire.
