Is there a truth in 'traders are on holiday'?

Guys... last 2-3 weeks we continuously hear broker reports/media saying 'traders/investors are on holidays and main reason for dull market. My personal opinion is it is not applicable any more. gone are the days where trader has to phisically present in broker house or call to execute order. Nowadays there are plenty of devices *ipads/iphone/blackberry where application can be easily installed connected to mobile wireless/net . So even you are on holiday, it will not cut off you from the market. Who will not carry this mobile gadgets even on holidays? Unless you are holidaying in Siberia, anyone can easily glance at the stock prices/execute buy-sell even enjoying holiday. What about people log in from abroad(where not much luxury of holidays) like myself? i am a small time online trader accessing Directfin from singapore. there are many of my friends who do the same. So i think in time to come this statement does not have any value and misleads. People who got into position last 2 days would reap massive gains as opposed to dumb holiday maker who plans to enter Jan 2

For the most of the foreigners this is vacation period. But for Sri Lankans few may be on vacation and most are working.

This is mainly true for some foreign fund managers. what I have herd and observed in this December time every year those people sell their equity and realize the profit for the year. then they enter the market again in the new year.

I think you are a sri lankan working abroad. So this is not applicable to you. Any way It is very interesting to here investors like you. your experiences may be very valuable for our members. work hard abroad and investing Sri Lanka,

But Institutional investors have already closed their books and when foreign participation was high holiday mood gave significant impact on CSE.
For accounting purpose due to year end activities , market may take slow journey.
Spending pattern (getting Bonus -christmas ,new year ) may divert the attention.

I think this is a made up story to find a reason. Most foreigners are on vacation in July. What about the JKH turnover yesterday. Otherwise because of the time zone difference we can say when the CSE is open foreign investors are asleep too.

as i have stated earlier, healthy TOs for today and friday shows the cooked up story of 'traders on leave'. During early dec TO never reached 500m and how come it is now exceeding 1.0bn during peak holiday times (23rd/27th)? It is sad that local retailers taken for ride by broker analysts.

Yes.
I am also on vacation and login from home Very Happy

Institutional trading don't happen in these days because that is somewhat procedural thing than a quick decision. So we are rarely see healthy turnover in December

I remember last December or so, foreigners bought DIAL at Rs. 12 through so many crossings. Look at JKH transactions these days. This holiday reason is a myth. Investors will buy any day. Only thing missing would be the people like, you know for the same reason Chinese restaurants get closed on holiday seasons in Colombo because those Chinese are going to their homes. Smile

These crossings must have been negotiated weeks and months ago, and sometimes used as prearranged deals to compensate for other dealings between parties.
