Jan 2, 2012 (LBT) - Sri Lanka’s Urban Development Authority (UDA) with Ministry of Defense & Urban Development in a public notice had called up for bids for shop allocation for the former Marketing Department and Fertilizer Building at Colombo Fort.
In the notice it said that the UDA has undertaken renovating the Former Marketing Department Building and Fertilizer Building at Colombo Fort to accommodate Commercial cum Recreational activities as follows while maintaining the old character of the building.
Accordingly the UDA had called for prospective bidders for a 1600 square feet Court Yard and the Upper Floor that has a total of 8650 square feet and another Block A with 4200 square feet area along with a Block D with a 3000 square feet area of the Ground Floor of the building. The notice highlights further that the Block B and Block C of the Ground Floor is already allocated.
Interested parties who wish to set up restaurants,Sports Clubs,Departmental Stores, Money Exchanges,Travel Agencies or any other tourism related facility could obtain the documents from 3 Januray 2012 to 20 January 2012 from 9 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. from the Design, project Management & Consultancy Division at 7th Floor, Sethsiripaya, Battaramulla on a payment of a non-refundable fee of Rs.5000 in cash.
The new development plan comes after the former 17th Century Dutch Hospital was transformed to a Shopping Precinct, a project that was spearheaded by Secretary to Ministry of Defense and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa and that declared open on 2 December 2011 by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
Now called to be Colombo’s finest shopping, entertainment and pedestrian precinct the building houses Restaurants such as ‘Work in Progress’, Ministry of Crabs, Semondu run by Sri Lankan Catering, Harpo’s Colombo Fort Café, and shopping outlets such as LUV Sl-ODEL, Heladiv Tea Club, Shipa National Crafts, Colombo Jewellery Stores, Nature’s Secrets, Barefoot, O! and Spa Ceylon.
The prospective bidder is required to submit the document in duplicate including the amount expected to offer for the space and all requested information at or before 2.30 p.m. on 24 January 2012 to Chairman, Ministry Tender Board (for UDA Land and Property Allocation), Finance Division, 6th Floor,Sethsiripaya, Battaramulla.
