Not an attractive dividend.. This year i noticed that banks announcing dividends too early.. For instance, PABC is another bank which announced dividend on early January, But XD date and payment is on April.. Very Happy This might be another indication that banks experiencing capital shortage at the moment.. Smile

I don't think investors respond to these small dividends especially in a situation where the future of bank performance is uncertain due to uncertainty of interest rates and rupee..

Most banks will announce dividends with their respective AGM end of March or early April. Its nothing to do with liquidity shortage, its simply prudent to make the information public sooner to prevent insider trading as the information is material non public. They probably decided the dividend in January, so there was no point holding it back as rumours can spread or insiders can trade on it. In case of SEYB, their results haven't improved enough with all their cost cutting measures and their VRS scheme to offer a more attractive dividend from last year.

PABC is declaring their first dividend. HNB, and NTB should also declare their dividend soon with the payment and XD dates in march or april.

Generally shares which announce a scrip dividend

I sold my PABC when it reached high few days back, bit worried that they also would go for a right issue, to meet their capital requirement

oops...forgot to finish my post. I meant generally shares which announce a scrip dividend (COMB) have to announce earlier as they need time to obtain approvals I think.
