Mar 19, 2012 (LBO) - A five percents stake in Sri Lanka's Aitken Spence Plc was bought by a foreign buyer from the Employees' Provident Fund, a state-managed retirement fund of private citizens.

The EPF sold 20.5 million shares to a foreign party an official said without elaborating.
The deal was executed in three off-market deals totaling 2.36 billion rupees at 115 rupees.

The EPF on Friday sold 71 million shares in John Keells Holdings to Malaysia's Khazanah Nasional Berhard.

I assume, EPF is selling. But who is likely to be the buyer? Probably it's a foreign buyer. If I am not mistaken, cost price is higher than this price price. In JKH transaction, at least EPF were able to gain around 1B profit.

Thanks Redbull. I didn't notice your comment on top.

Price of SPEN
at 29.6.10 was RS 1600
at 30.30.10 was RS 1325

This is before the split.

So I guess EPF appears to be ahead with profit for 20.5 Million shares.

The attached image shows how an LKR1.5bn unrealized gain in 31/12/2010 has become a mere LKR213mn unrealized gain as of today from the EPF's holdings in Aitken Spence. The calculation is made up from few assumptions like the purchases are assumed of average prices of High, low & closing. And also no trading by EPF during this period (31/12/2010 to 19/03/2012) i.e; only purchases.
