What is your intended initial investment. Are you planing to monitor 20 counters.
20 seems to be little high to me. It differs from person to person.
In my opinion, there is no point of investing a small amount on 20 different counters.
It is better to select a few and monitor them really well.
FYI, my portfolio worth about 4M and I have 3 counters.

listen buddy. Let me tell you one thing, dont follow the crowd, the crowd is your enemy. I have been in this market for a long time, and I was just like you, and I have failed big time! You will too!

But im so glad and proud that I failed so hard, because it opened my eyes to learn more and be independent!

You planning to handle 2o stocks? My opinion, that is your trap hole! Dont buy alot of stocks thinking you can risk averse! its bullshit! There are prety lot of attractive counters in the market now! But you cant accuire them all! Dont ever be greedy because that is going to kill you!

I would prefer you sticking to 5, too much of it your going to handle it well specially in a down fall! not more than that! This is my view.
Try picking counters from the DIV, MFG & BANKS.

The stock market is a cycle, if you understand business cycles, then you would under stand the market, but since you seem to be a freshman, you wont know i suppose. Play the sectors which is in the fabour of the economy, dont get emotional becuase the company has a good brand name or other bullshit, Brand names wont help you to survive your portofolio, you need appreciated value!

With this adivce, go and self study on doing valuations, Study on how to value a company and then invest, The market is not the instinsic value, let me tell you that. The market wont die, its going to be here for a long time, you miss this oppurtunity, dont worry, their will be a nother bus waiiting for you!

Once again, dont follow the crowd! Not even your broker! Cheers!

20 counters are good if 'less risky' and 'less gain' pf is required.

Lesser the counters higher the gain as well as risk.

Dear all,

Thank you very much your advice & time. According to my small experience with CSE & as I red this forum (I was a silent reader of this forum from last 12-14 months) I can understand your view.

My plan was maintain 15-20 counters due to present uncertain political, economical & Social situation in the country. I'm feeling current situation will drag another 2-3 years & after economy will perform well. But I may be wrong because I'm talking with general behavior of the country(specially political), I do not have much technical knowledge about the CSE pattern.
Already I have invested 1.5M in selected counters with strong confidence & hopes. Ex. VONE, FLCH, COMB.X, BIL, EXPO, RICH, SEYB.X, CSD etc.

Thx again my friends, I'll think again & again before take the decision Very Happy

@NUINTH: Good luck! You have already chosen some of the best shares. It's probably too late to take Dileepa's advice; if you have a few shares that you feel very strongly about, concentrate on them.

@Dileepa: Your 'concentrate your portfolio' strategy is good to beat the market, but most folks here are content to just rise and fall with the market. My strategy is similar to yours and I would like to know which your 3 counters are.

@wallstreetguy: Sound advice. An independent streak is necessary to succeed in this market; I have never made a rupee from my broker's advice.

Hi All,

There are many thoughts with each other. But i have another idea & I am following my way. But I don't know how this idea helps to you.

Nearly 250 companies with the CSE Up to now. Also l have shares with 35 companies. pls note I haven't big qty s. I am trying to collect shares from all of companies.

I keep records for all of company records daily. I maintain an excel sheet for day by day. I down load CSE data report enter the details to my excel sheet. I also refer the CSE daily report daily to collect the informations. (Company announcements / Devidends / Right issues / Etc..)

I am an employee in a private company. I have no time to see the mkt in the day time longly but time to time i log to CSE web site & See what happened Also note my broker is Capital Alliance Securities & I got the on-line facility. I log to my portfolio account every night & get the details what are the shares I have profit & loss.

Then i decide to sell the most profitable shares & collect some shares from the most lost company within the next day. Then i can get an enough profit daily. But i make sure to keep even 100 shares from those companies when i sell.

Actually this is my way. collect small shares from every companies. Then need to check what are the shares we can sell with profits once found need to sell them. Also find the most lost company & collect some shares to reduce the loss average. once up the share price with the loss companies, you can sell those shares with a good profit.

These days with the mkt crash i got a big lost but last few months I earned good profit. Actually I earned more than 30000 rupees for a month.

I think, we don't think to long term & short term ideas. Once the time we have to get profit we have sell the shares.

I am so worry with my current losses but I know once up the mkt I can cover the all losses. Also I never sell my shares with a loss.

I know my way is correct. One day I will be one of 20 bilinears in the share mkt.

Pls find your way. all of we have own way related to us. Good lock. Very Happy

I hold NTB, ODEL and one other share to fool around.
That one other is selected by my broker and traded on credit most of the time.
(Not recommended, but there is a chance to make something out of nothing)
I had GLAS until recently, but disposed due to some concerns I have stated some ware in the forum.

Following 20 counters could be little bit more. I follow only 6 counters and presently holding only 3 counters in my portfolio.
