The Colombo bourse moved up yesterday, though volumes remained thin, with the All Share Price index gaining 37.24 points (0.77%) and the Milanka up 34.64 points (0.81%) on a turnover of Rs.284.8 million, up from the previous day’s Rs.242.4 million, with 143 gainers comfortably ahead of 69 losers.

"There was a little activity towards end of trading with some buying interest in the last few minutes that helped the indices," a broker said. "However, volumes remained mediocre."

A single block trade of Commercial Bank of 0.5 million shares done at Rs.100.50 in a deal worth Rs.50.3 million helped the day’s business volumes with ComBank trading at these levels on the floor too closing 20 cents up at Rs.100.50 with nearly 0.4 million shares done between Rs.100.50 and Rs.101 generating a further Rs.37.3 million turnover.

JKH was the second biggest turnover generator closing Rs.3.20 up at Rs.183.90 on nearly 0.2 million shares done between Rs. 180.60 and Rs. 185 contributing Rs.28.7 million to the day’s business volumes.

DFCC Bank too closed Rs.1.50 up at Rs.107.60 on nearly 0.2 million shares in large parcel done between Rs.106 and Rs.109.70 and Asian Hotel Properties was up a rupee to close at Rs.73.50 on nearly 0.2 million shares done between Rs.71.50 and Rs.73.50.

Hayleys was down Rs.9.90 to close at Rs.320.10 on 20,574 shares. Brokers said that a small quantity of seven shares was the last trade for the day with 20,000 shares done at Rs.330.

Expolanka and Dialog demonstrated volumes of over a million with both counters gaining – Expolanka up 10 cents to close at Rs.6.10 on nearly 1.1 million shares and Dialog up 20 cents to close at Rs.5.80 on nearly 1.2 million shares.

Commercial Bank (non-voting) lost 80 cents to close at Rs.74 on 74,959 shares traded between 73.50 and Rs.75.

CSE announced that Ramboda Falls Limited will list 20 million shares which will commence trading on June 18 under the Hotels & Travel sector on the Dirisavi Board with deposits accepted by the CDS with immediate effect.
