No sellers...Rs.10 appreciation with a marginal volume traded...Quite a decent quarterly performance..

Hope the share is hotting up before the impending dividend declaration (Normally dividend is declared between 15th to 20th Aug, going by last 3 yrs record..)

RENU's share price does not represent its financial performance. I sometimes wonder what is wrong with this company. Why is it trading at a discount to other companies in the Hotels sector?

As a RENU-watcher, I understand what anu is saying. Look at the 1 month chart on Bloomberg (with Bollinger Bands overlay) and you would understand.
http://www.bloomberg.com/quote/RENU:SL/chart

I don't expect dividend to exceed Rs 5.50 or Rs 6.00 per share, although the management can afford to pay much more.

Hi Antonym, I value your contributions on RENU.

Few very important factors for us to consider on this intriguing share:

1. You rightly brought out their australian investment as a concern. But now when we look back, it looks like it is a blessing in disguise for the company.

As per their 2010/11 AR, they lent AUD 2.9Mn at Rs 111/82 (Rs 325.55Mn) at an annual int rate of 5% - 7% until March 2019. As of now the AUD rate is around 139. That means, there is an exchange gain of Rs 78.6Mn or about 16% p.a additional return due to exchage gain. So the total gain including interest p.a will be around 20%, which is not bad at all.
But true enough, such a phenominal appreciation of AUD against LKR cannot be expected every year even if AUD is a strong currency compared to others.

2. If you look at their income statement, the income from hotel is a minor percentage. Other operating income is easily 60% or more every year for the last 3 years. So this share cannot be compared with other hotel industry shares. It is more of an investment holding company.

3. EPS growth:
2008/09 - Rs. 15.15
2009/10 - Rs. 27.79
2010/11 - Rs. 24.54
2011/12 - Rs. 64.32
1Q2012/13 - Rs. 14.90 (annualised - about Rs.60)
This is a very good sign. PEG is very healthy.

4. NAVPS growth:

2008/09 - Rs. 191.88
2009/10 - Rs. 214.67
2010/11 - Rs. 233.70
2011/12 - Rs. 292.52
1Q2012/13 - Rs. 311.44

So the value addition to the share is very consistent and progressive. Eventhough we detest that fact of declaring Rs 5.5 dividend against an EPS of 64, the value of the share grows significantly over the years due to this policy.

So for me, this is a very good long term investment. Not suitable for traders and short term investors.

I don;t expect a high dividend either. But looking at their cash situation some might say they are rather stingy!

I suspect that one of the main reasons why this share is low is because one large shareholder is slowly disposing of their shareholding, which i beleive is held for long time at very low cost. If you refer their last 3-4 quaterly reports, you will notice this. This price is relatively low due to this supply overhang. once this selling quantity is over, it will be interesting to see share performance !

Time to look at this again. It is building momentum slowly....

Dividend on course will only be around august as usual. Hope to see a change in dividend policy..to pay a decent enough dividend

Stingy B****.

Atleast can give Rs 10-15 dividend. Look at the cash they have.

Appreciation of bluechips is good for them. May be this time they might nail down some profits.

Looking at this past thread, I see a steady growth of this share, eventhough it is illiquid.

Big growth of NAVPS to above 640/-. Share price is moved to around 350/- from 200 range, still with more upward potential. No big sellers..
