Bourse loses some ground but All Share still above 5,000

The Colombo bourse yesterday lost some of the ground gained in the previous two days although the All Share Price Index remained above the benchmark 5,000 point level, brokers said.

The All Share Price Index was down 27.31 points (0.5%), the Milanka down 56.29 points (1.20%) and S&P down 18.96 points (0.67%) on a turnover of Rs.265.8 million, down from the previous day’s Rs.634.9 million, with 70 losers ahead of 53 gainers and 74 counters closing flat.

There was one block trade of 357,000 JKH at Rs.195 generating Rs.69 million turnover, brokers said.

On the trading floor, Distilleries, Commercial Bank (voting), CIC (voting), Central Finance and Ceylinco Insurance (voting) were the big turnover generators.

Distilleries which led the turnover league on the floor trades closed Rs.1.30 up at Rs.120 on over 0.2 million shares done between Rs.118.20 and Rs.120.30 contributing Rs.25.7 million turnover while Commercial Bank closed 30 cents down at Rs.103 with slightly over 0.2 million shares done between Rs.102.60 and Rs.103.40 generating Rs.22 million turnover.

``There were a couple of largish parcels of 20,000 – 25,000 shares among the trades,’’ a broker said.

CIC closed 40 cents down at Rs.68 on 0.3 million shares done between Rs.67.80 and Rs.69 contributing Rs.20.8 million to turnover while Central Finance closed Rs.2.20 down at Rs.137 on over 0.1 million shares done between Rs.135.10 and Rs.143.20 generating a turnover of Rs.16.7 million.

Ceylinco Insurance was up sharply by Rs.40.40 on 20,024 shares done between Rs.748 and Rs.800 generating a turnover of Rs.15 million.

Dividend announcements were made by Kelani Cables with a second interim dividend of Re.1 per share for 2011/12 XD from Sept. 5 and with payment on Sept. 14 and The Autodrome with an interim dividend of Rs.3 per share XD from Sept. 5 and with payment on Sept. 14.
