I made the below post in August when there was a commotion with SEC . Mud slinging was happening at that time in the forum about all parties involved. If we went at that rate we were in a danger of shutting down.

http://forum.srilankaequity.com/t21429-imporant-message-to-all-forum-members-and-participatants-of-cse

From time to time "individuals" show up at the forum for various adendas. These people suddenly show up for political issues, SEC issues, personal issues, mud slinging, share promotions , self promotions etc etc. I know several old member left the forum in disgust due to being here is a "waste of their time" and due to mud slings.

During the very bad times from early 2012 to July this year, only a handful of people stuck around, keeping the forum/CSE alive for others to return to when they want. Else there would be no forum. Some of us even did educational posts/analysis during the ASI 4700-4800 .

http://forum.srilankaequity.com/t19816-some-thoughts-on-cse-market-situation-at-present
http://forum.srilankaequity.com/t19939-good-shares-time-to-analyze-and-post-findings-open-invitation-to-all

Some people would be sitting on 40-100% gain still ( short term) if they read those articles did study for themselves and got in. Some missed the bus . We/I make no buy recommendation as we will be targets if something goes wrong ( we have no control of people) but we present analysis of markets/shares taking facts of the time into consideration.
No sppon feeding is necessary. Why should we waste time to share knowledge and research for free and get blamed if something goes wrong . Smart people will decide what is right , knows the risk, study yourself and get in if suitable ( it is your money). Why blamed other who are there for the forum supply free service. If you do not like the analysis or that particular share tell explicity why and correct it or just keep quiet in the name of decency.

As you all know , these handful of contributors stuck around purely on Volunteer basis
while dedicating their time for social service
. There was no other benefit maybe other than learning something new from another. Some of us did not run way from CSE or the Forum during it difficult
times. We stayed invested to keep CSE going and even traded , invested
further as long term. We had ethics. We did not make is a casino. We kep market alive for casino makers.

While this is happening some others only show up to
take advantage of CSE at a boom ( they would keep away for ages whe needed), to make quick money and dissapear again. There are confused people who are Traders who say they are Investors but they are really Traders. There are real Traders who become long term investors when their trades goes wrong.( it was not planned as a long term investment initially . They did not cut losses also aqs trader. Now they balme others). There are Investors who say they are investors but they are really Traders. All this is okay . No problem. Anyone can follow their strategy to suit them. No one is stopping. But the issue is these "visitors" attack the few who was actually contribute to the forum. There is a saying that "Lighting will strike the Mango tree with ripened fruit" Also a few new lambs will follow the attackers. Some of these attackers will show their success stories only and hide their failures so New comers will only see the positives .

What I noticed about the forum is the below

a) 95% come here to observe and benefit and keep silent
b) few others are here to Promote their shares or promote them selves
( share promotion means: state names and target prices without reason)
c) some are here to mud sling others and show their ego
d) only a handful does any analysis of shares, provide members opinion and help when they need it . ( that what the forum is about)

I recently have 2 personal experiences to share

According to some people here, it does not
matter if you hold a share or not. If you make reply as a favor to question someone else asks or make general observation at X price
and it that shares comes down in price they will be out to get you. There are people with kindergarden minds here. But if the price goes up they never will acknowledge or appreciate it.

Here are 2 personal examples :

1) I posted a CDB analysis at Rs 40.
http://forum.srilankaequity.com/t22325-cdb-share-to-keep-an-eye-on

I ask you isn't these type of analysis what the forum is about . Only a few will waste time to share such. It was meant for educational purposes depending on your holding power and targets. If anyone wanted to study what I said ( it is your money) and decided to go for it , then there was a 20% short term gain even as it went up to RS 48 within a week or 2. Only one or 2 thanked after they made short term trades. Now CDB is back to Rs 40. But voila , one party is blaming it is
as a promotion to his ruthless fancy. Only 2 people atleast defended that fact it was not. Wow.

Would the forum rather mind if I do not post any analysis or rather blindly say CDB will hit X price in 2 weeks without any facts? it is clear most here are short term traders with less patience an look down upon the benefits of long term investment as their knowledge in market is limited.

2) I did an Analysis on ACL group when it was Rs 50+.
http://forum.srilankaequity.com/t20944-acl-kcab-apla-small-analysis?highlight=apla

ACL still is Rs 68 . But the funny thing is no attack happened as it is trading
much above the initial . Also no thanks. Some would have benefited but kept silent.
No problem. Now if it comes down these rude people will come out with knives . That is a problem.

Who is responsible here to protect your investment. The guy who provided you free info or yourself. Funny thing is some people who does not hold it even are the people who make rude accusations.

Is this the environment the member want to entertain here. Does one have no ethics at all.

Summary :

We have 3 options

1) Each member need to strictly follow the below

a) one is free to state any opinion
b) but it has to done in a respectful way to others
c) if one accuses another , then concrete highlighted proof has to be made. Statements like read the previous posts , he promoted this / he promoted that is not allowed . No mud slings without proof should be entertained.

2) The people who makes analysis of shares, answers questions to
help others , given opinions should be protected by the forum member
when they are attacked unfairly by visitors.

If you don't
such members remaining will dissapear. Is that you want? Forum full of selfish people who only harp about their achivements but not educate or reveal their research to thers. Good posters from past have already left the forum. Remaining will also dissapear. You have a responsibility to Not keep
silent and protect the forum and such contributors if you really do care.

3) Admins and Moderators take stern action to warn mud slingers and violators 1 time and if they do not adhere to provide proof ban them and any suspicious activity.

I know Admins and Moderator are nice people here. They try to give many chances and explain much as possible. We rarely ban. i really do not want to ban people. But it seems people take it for granted and abuse their rights.

So what is the solution? In order of significance : 1) 2) 3) mentioned above.

But the request on members is to just don't pass the ball to Admins and moderator. Else you will not have good contributors or maybe moderator or Admins who volunteer for free. You might not have a forum left to get free opinions and share analysis during all times good and bad.

Let the rude and unruly rule and we sit anf watch until all good posters dissapear. Is this the target?

Thanks slstock for your professional approach in the midst of personnal attacks. I agree with you 100%. Forum needs disciplined members to go forward. Let us work together & maintain the quality of the forum. One or two black sheeps can't tarnish the image of the forum.

We can't tolarate mudslinging campaigns against innocent hard working people who work as a public service any more.

Thanks for the timely post to awake our forum members.
I slightly differ from your summary option No:3.
Why?,You know very well how we dealt with some new accounts couple of months ago.

Agree Sri. But we always tried to be humane and to give these people several chances before we took action didn't we?

Look like for some several chances is a road for them abuse further. Thats what I meant.

I appreciate the good work our team done always.

I say that no warning is necessary.. No time should be given to publish proof..

If someone posts crap without any proof.. Immediately the post should be deleted... Few exceptions could be provided for the members who inadvertently violate this rule but for the branded "promoters" (we have quite a handful) the action is imminent..

Why so strict is; nobody here is a taken as a kid (apart from one absent minded sick dude) who cannot understand forum ethics.. Therefore; no remind is necessary too..

We as admins must now understood thru hard way that we've given much freedom and it hs driven ppl to abuse the forum rules and its members, we 2 being the no1..

So I dont think hereafter we should play the nice-guy attitude for the ppl with agendas or bad mouth members.. We should treat them with their own medicine...

I think all of this boils down to professional / ethical conduct. Compare illuminati's behavior with that of Rajitha, you'll see who's professional and who's not.

I bet you that even in the real life one of those guys is a typical "i know it all" a-hole and the other one is a more mature person. Being positive or negative has nothing to do with one's professional conduct IMO.

@slstock: I'm sorry about not speaking up for you (I think I didn't post in any of the previous threads), I just don't see a point in arguing with these morons. Surely, we all hope you'll keep up your work.

PS: I think a considerable amount of people here have BSc, MSc, PhD degrees. But that doesn't mean jack when it comes to successful investing or being a good person.

Cheers!

Exactly, It is very is easy when you know the pig(or cow).
Otherwise we will be wasting our valuable time here.
On a slightly different topic, a lockout of period of 6-8 hours for new accounts
should also be considered.
