• So far 33 companies have released quarterly results for the quarter ending 30th Sep. 2012.

• Still no body talks about much on earnings improvement, probably most on cherry picking, but results are
excellent.

• Cumulative earnings for the 33 companies for Sep. 2012 quarter are 11 billion rupees comparatively to the
Sep. 30th quarter of 2011, which was 6.6 billion rupees.

• YOY increase in earnings for the quarter is a whopping 66%. When we remove extraordinary items, growth is
about 55%.

• Year to date cumulative earnings is 17.8 billion rupees against 14.6 billion rupees recorded in 2011.

• YOY increase in year to date earnings is encouraging 22%. When we remove extraordinary items in the two
years, growth is around 16%.

• Out of 33 companies, 30 companies has reported growth in core earnings

• Huge increase in profitability in the September 2012 quarter should get investor’s attention because
traditionally Sri Lankan corporates report weak earnings in June and September quarters comparative to
December and March quarters.

• If other companies also report good earnings we can assume a new growth trend has started.

• We saw lot of guys talking positively when the market was trading at 5900-6000 level. Now we can’t see
those. But actually, this is the time to be positive. Month of November 2012 will be the month for
accumulation and portfolio building.

Yep,
U got it correct.
We can expect very good results from all most all the sectors in sri lanka in next 3 to 5 years. Those will come through GDP growth specially due to construction growth backed by local government infrastructure projects and foreign direct investments.

Our Financial Market will have a huge quick boost at least by another 2 to 3 times by end of next 5 years. Sri lanke will celebrate 100b GDP around 2018 - 2020 with economically active north and east which is not yet participating much to GDP calculation.

What about higher per capita income. Higher Per capita income can boost the purchasing power and credit market. This cycle will boost the entire economy to the next level...

Be careful you two. Certain bears and bear mentalities can attack you for saying this during the red days.

Readers:

You decide what these guys are saying is correct ( considering facts also ), and weigh what bears say/do also so you can judge for yourself. I would also wait the other company quarter results to pick strong shares during these bad times.

It is your money. So no one should blame others.

All I request from this forum is that you do not make CSE a Casino. If you want to trade that is fine. It is okay to have separate portfolios for different times. But have some Ethics about others and the country also. Do not confuse short term profit with Investment. Do not treat CSE as a rest house to use it and dump it to your fancy. That will not help to create a stable market for all of us to cherish for times to come.

Money is something it is not everything.

Dear SS,

This is about sri lankan economy.

If u have any negative comment on the economy it will enhance the quality of my/our above comment and we can discuss.

Above my comment is not about the CSE. CSE will go UP and down but ultimately adjust with the economy at least in the long run.

I dont know y u post some thing like this in a mid of a great valuable discussion. ha ha.

Oh Amal. You did not get what I said? ;-p

Quite simple. I am only helping you guys to protect your discussion.

Talking positive about long term, future, good performance during RED days is exposing yourself for Bear attacks Wink . If there is a bear attack in this thread let the reader atleast see there ae other views than short term red.

The wise will use opportunities, and look not only at present but to the future.

Today also some bears had bought 2 million JKH at a PE of over 20+. Also the rains have increased the hyrdo capacity reducing the need for expensive oil imports. http://www.lbo.lk/fullstory.php?nid=1871625880

Looks like a legendary illuminating situation and we may soon reach 4,700

BTW Hari,

Thanks for the attached report. Gives a good snapshot of earnings and comparisons so far.

One reason I want to wait for majority of reports is to make sure of the trend ( of majority of companies) As we know stronger results are usually released early. Maybe it will be good to see how negative ones performed also and the reasons why they did so to analyse and find the strongest when the economic turnaround comes.

Right now high gearing, loans in us$ , high energy consuming companies had a short term hit.
Glas being a high energy consuming company survived to hold earnings and slightly go above too.

Also we see a few companies which are down the dark road. Let see how they performed this quarter to confirm further their direction. There is a previously much talked about company heading into a dark corner during this year.

Now why our ppl still buy JKH???

I feel in the coming days n nights we may have to look at PAP cuz of the starting of the long-awaited monsoon rains Wink
Not only PAP, VPEL, VLL can also report outstanding results f this rains continue..

Now these are not good for plantations eh?

Yeah why not.

The funny thing about news articles on plantations are that once they said drought hit Tea sector and now I see another article saying rain it hitting them again . "( I need to find that news article) .

But the operative word these people fail to mention is "Selective". They generalize , categories and talk extreme and pick the bad.

Ofcourse , both bear and bull comments are welcome. It shows us different views and some times sides we do not see. It is these uncouth attacks ( which try to be personal at times) which I/we do/shout not appreciate. There is always a civilized away to voice your opinion. These red days and corrections are opportunities for some while it is playground for others to say I told you so.
