Market remained in positive territory helped by gains on John Keells Holdings. Most other blue-chips saw mixed sentiments. Most trading was done through retail volumes although few relatively large blocks on Seylan Bank non-voting, Indo Malay, Carson Cumberbatch and DFCC also traded. Investors seem to be taking a wait and see approach with the impending budget speech this week.
ASI gained 17.28 points (0.31%) to close at 5,556.59, MPI gained 12.84 points (0.25%) to close at 5,102.74 and the S&P index gained 7.23 points (0.24%) to close at 3,012.98. Turnover was Rs. 231.3Mn.
Top contributors to turnover were Seylan Bank non-voting with Rs. 55.1Mn, DFCC with Rs. 20.5Mn and Indo Malay with Rs. 18.5Mn. Most active counters for the day were Seylan Bank non-voting, Dialog Axiata and Citrus Leisure warrant-19.
Notable gainers for the day were Shaw Wallace up by 7.4% to close at Rs. 290.00, Laxapana up by 6.0% to close at Rs. 7.10 and United Motors up by 5.4% to close at Rs. 102.30. Notable losers for the day were Hotel Sigiriya down by 6.0% to close at Rs. 78.80, Touchwood down by 3.0% to close at Rs. 16.10 and Distilleries down by 2.0% to close at Rs. 145.00.
Cash map for today was 51.13%. Foreign participation for today was 11.3% and net foreign inflow was Rs. 16.2Mn.
