Market is heading the consecutive second year of loss dispite that no significant political instability and threat to growth. Yes, growth is lower than expected, interest rates are going up ( at least gone up), credit is scare, exchange rate is devalued. I think all odds are clear by the end of the year. There is uncertainty in the political fronts , but these things are day to day issues rather threatening long term .

If there is a real theft, that's from international community over war crime of whatsoever related to war only.

Even if we expect nominal growth of 15% ( 7+8% of inflation),

Given the troubled history of 2 years and current level of appealing market valuation, market should give decent return in 2013.

( writing something here after April 2012, last post on a disaster is around the corner)

Under the scenarios that you have described above why not allocate 5-10% to GOLD.

I somewhat agree with salt.
However if we look invest n a FD or gold or some other investment seems to be profitable than invest in the market.
but, with experience with markets, i still love to invest in the market (even after some certain unrealized losses) . Reason i strongly believe w.r..t the current situation market should have to have it's positive growth in near future.
when market started to move, it will give decent returns as slat mentioned.
for some of the stocks i would expect 300%,400% return in mid term. Keep such targets is always a huge risk because of many factors that will likely to be happened during the time period. The above assumed there will be no such effects and SriLanka continue it's steady growth for consecutive years. Smile

What is the real reasons for the negative sentiment ?
I have read so many "Factors" related to the Down and or Up trends and all were found to be short lived.
Manipulation to a certain degree and FD is another I agree but I wonder whether are there any other significant FACTORS that we have not discussed here ? Very Happy

I don't think global picture does support gold any longer. we might see flat year for gold ( USD terms)
FD is giving 15%-16% is much better option now, but on long term basis , I believe level of valuation is attractive for equity.

If foreign buying dominates the market for few more months it should stimulate local institutes, fund managers and HNWIs to move to equity.
will hope for the best.

Its very true.

However, the real issue here is, most of us do not have the insight and the right mentality required to cope-up with the volatality of the bourse.

A very few have their targets set and can withstand the preassure for long term gains. Others who do not have any targets, either long term or short term, and follow the crowd cry foul when some thing unforeseen happens short term. One should be clear of his targets before investing/trading. Happy trading 2013 Very Happy
