Not many will doubt that one of the most sought after keyword on Internet is “sex”. And Sri Lankans, it seems, are the most search savvy when it comes to Googling that term.

This is according to Google Trends, a public web facility that shows how often a particular search-term is entered relative to the total search-volume across various regions of the world, and in various languages.

Second-placed India is not far behind in search for the term, and so isn’t (surprise, surprise) #3 Papua New Guinea and #4 Ethiopia even as Pakistan completes the Top 5 nations that Googled for ‘sex’ in 2012.

According to Google Trends, search for the term peaked in Sri Lanka during the week April 15-21, 2012, even as the partial data for the current week (December 23-29, 2012) shows it as second-highest week during which the term was Goggled in 2012.

In India, people most Googled for the term during the week November 11-17, 2012 while the week October 21-27, 2012, wasn’t far behind.

When it comes to breaking down the data by cities, however, India’s Bangalore tops the charts for people Googling the term ‘sex’ in 2012.

In fact, the top 5 slots are all Indian cities – Bangalore is followed by Chennai, Pune New Delhi and Calcutta, in that order.

And mind you, this is a worldwide list – not the list of Indian cities most searching for the term. Pakistan’s Lahore is at No. 6 while the next two – Chandigarh and Mumbai – are again Indian cities, followed by Thanh Pho Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi, both in Vietnam.

I wonder how Google have done this.
1. Population wise we have less population.
2.We do not have unlimited internet access. And internet is less accessible in villages.
Even during April 15 - 21 people usually not in internet. They have parties, they are visiting relatives. There is less ways to access the internet ie Offices are closed, internet cafes are closed.

WORD---RANK

Elephant - SL worlds 1 st
Sharuk - 1st
Flower - 2nd
Tsunami - 2nd
Buddhism - 1st

In many other words Sri Lanka is coming in the worlds top list

Dog, Cat, satellite, Moon, rain, Rice

Even with "Sharuk Khan" we beat India ! I think you can understand the reason.

Its all down to the keyword after all.
SL & india knows only sex / porn as the only keywords to search for those.

But in other counties (english countries) might be getting the same thing done with some specific keywords. It doesn't have to be those 2 words to find porn.

On the otherhand here you can read what Google have said about accuracy of their data,
Google has made its stand clear on the accuracy of data provided by Trends by saying, “The data Trends produces may contain inaccuracies for a number of reasons, including data-sampling issues and a variety of approximations that are used to compute results. We hope you find this service interesting and entertaining, but you probably wouldn't want to write your PhD dissertation based on the information provided by Trends."

It think we are over extending this matter . Every country needs an outlet for such natural things. Some countriues will have more options/resources than others. The english words used can change as some pointed.

I once watched a program where a european government pays as part of medical care for a disabled person to get "treatment" once so often.

These are not unnatural things.

Its true slstock, gov provides financial and other resources for disables to enjoy sex from those places providing. Disables say that they dont stand a chance to enjoy this joy in their life ever, if the government dosnt help them. Feels so sad in their point of view when you think about a disable person waiting to enjoy the joy at least one time in their entire life. But in the point of view of tax payers, its paying money for hookups.
In my area there are lap dancing places who promote Mondays as student's night. Mostly asians go to those places

In SL these gray areas are not openly discussed, because its against the culture. Thats why so much frustration about this subject matter.

Speaking of religious countries ,. Thailand and Philippines come to mind to see somehow "balance" their lives.

In response, I would first say prove it . Secondly don;t take examples on a personal basis for public matters.

Anyway here question is who giving the publicity now and who is doing greater harm?
Is it google , foreigners or many of us. After a couple of weeks this whole thing will die and no one will be harmed. Will we. Do you think foreginer will stop investing or coming to island because Sri Lankans are searching the word Sex. Every country will do it that but using different words. Did you see the posts by Chinwi and Chamith.

Whitebull, seems you are emotionally involved again on a non personal / general matter. BTW, what are you suggesting we should do ? .

BTW, what are you suggesting we should do ? .

It think we are over extending this matter . Every country needs an outlet for such natural things. Some countriues will have more options/resources than others. The english words used can change as some pointed.

I once watched a program where a european government pays as part of medical care for a disabled person to get "treatment" once so often.

These are not unnatural things.

Yes these are not unnatural things. But......
If someone analyse searching on your area and publish that your house is the number one house for searching internet using the word SEX how would you feel ?
I just give you an example to think that how would you feel when it comes to ur family level.Well ur response is to ask to prove it which I have done when it is in country level,
I wonder how Google have done this.
1. Population wise we have less population.
2.We do not have unlimited internet access. And internet is less accessible in villages.
Even during April 15 - 21 people usually not in internet. They have parties, they are visiting relatives. There is less ways to access the internet ie Offices are closed, internet cafes are closed
but when it comes to ur country level ur response is this,
Well, it good we are leading in something
I am not being emotional slstock you have seriously misunderstood me. But I keep my country next to my family. When my country is under humiliation it is not just a public matter to me.

Whitebull I mistakenly edited part of your post. Instead of hitting quote I hit edit. And deletd it.
Sorry.

But below is supposd to be a Joke. Not about the Country but the situation we are worrying too much. .

There are things in life if we worry, talk or take personal too much it will become a bigger issue than necessary. The way to defend issues like this is not by discussing amongst Sri Lankans. It is by talking to foreigners if we know they have misunderstood . I see no issue upto now where I am located at now. No prizes to guess how I have promoted the country in foreign lands, when possible.

Let stop this and look at the market as it is getting a interesting.

I again edited my previous post as it looks absurb otherwise. We have to discuss these things among us to get some of our people to proper track. Our morale has already at very low lavel thanks to some politicians and policy makers. These type of information would furthur diminish our morale which will furthur reduce the development of this country.
