Jan 28, 2013 (LBT) - The All Share Price Index lost 23.10 points to close at 5,855.09 (-0.4%) while the S&P SL20 Index gained 4.07 points to close at 3,194.72 (0.11%). Total turnover for the day stood at LKR759.6 mn (USD5,977.9 k) vs. 12 -months average daily turnover of LKR1,037.53 mn (USD8,165.0 k), whilst the volume traded for the day was 16,326.7 k against the 12 -months average daily volume of 39,898 k.
Top contributory counters towards the turnover for the day were, John Keells Holdings LKR547,9 mn (USD4,311.9 k, 0.2%), Environmental Resources Investments LKR73.8 mn (USD580.7 k, -4.2%), Commercial Bank of Ceylon LKR11.8 mn (USD92.9 k,1.4%), Commercial Bank of Ceylon (Non-Voting) LKR6.8 mn (USD53.2 k, -0.1%) and Access Engineering LKR5.7 mn (USD45.0 k, -1.5%). The activities at the bourse lost steam as the bench mark ASI plunged by 23 points, amidst most of the counters registering p rice depreciation and investors’ interest being low. John Keells Holdings saw two off the market deals totalling to over 1.5mn shar es changing hands at LKR225.0. Subsequent to the crossing and several block trades in the normal board, counter emerged as the top turnover generator, contributing circa 72% towards the total turnover. Environmental Resources Investments emerged as the top traded counter with more than 4 mn shares being traded. However, the selling pressure observed dragged down the counter by 4.2% to close at LKR18.04. Further, both the voting and Non -Voting shares of Commercial Bank of Ceylon entered into the top contributors list, however reporting relatively low turnover levels.
In addition, subsequent to the right issue announcement, Kotagala Plantation was the main loser of the day shedding 18.3% to close at LKR64.0. Foreign purchases amounted to LKR513.4 mn (USD4,040.0 k), whilst foreign sales amounted to LKR491.4 mn (USD3,867.4 K). This resulted in a net foreign inflow of LKR21.9 mn being recorded at the end of the day’s trading. Market capitalization stood at LKR2,249.1 bn. YTD performance is 3.8%.
