If any one wants index fund, there is a similar thing already in the market, that is RICH , which owns KGAL,NAMU,MASK three leading plantation companies.and also FLCH.

As of latest financial result of DIPD, industry segment result for plantation sector is Rs 700 million (nine months), which is 100% growth compare to last year.

DPL Plantations (Pvt) Ltd is fully owned Subsidiary of Dipped Products PLC. DPL Plantations is controlling share holder of KVAL (around 71%). Therefor, what kind of quarter result we can expect from KVAL?

WATA, NAMU and KOTA( though I am not fan of their right issue fancies and cross party transactions/loans)

was just wondering, what with all the good earnings from the plantation sector and all, what would be the best way to play this sector -
1. Pureplay - directly pick plantation stocks
2. Buy into the Holding Companies - RICH, CFLB, DIPD, MRPH etc. These companies are attractively valued too and may get you some diversification benefits.

My opinion would be

If one is sure/expecting a plantation run, then for highest % gains direct shares has to be the way.

But to buffer drastic shocks and to be conservative we can go for holding companies.

I saw lot of talk about MPRH which is solid right now . But if we look at price history and if there is a massive plantation run ( still wishful) , the chances of BOPL doubling its value will be quicker than MPRH . Same with KGAL and RICH .

Honestly, I am just starting to study this sector and very much a student still. trying to get as much info from my friends in the tea business and doing some research such as reading annual reports etc !
I was thinking pretty much the same as your 5 but with a combination approach - RICH, DIPD, KOTA, WATA, and a speculative from the sector - FLCH, MADU or MAL - yet undecided.
Metropolitan also looks good. CFLB is also undervalued as now their main loss making Agrapathana under LDEV is returning to profitablity.

TAH, you are looking at shares with discount values im present marke to trade at CSE right.

We are talking about solid plantation companies with a long history and decent managment to form a index fund.

Its like if one wants to form SL20 , I might want to include ALLI but we will pick share like JKH and DIST for many other reasons.
