He took over on Thursday, January 31 amidst the chanting of ‘seth pirith’ by members of the Buddhist clergy, the sources said.
The position of group CEO at SLT follows the departure of SLT CEO, Australian national Greg Young on completion of his contract. In the new post, Mr De Silva will oversee all companies that come under the SLT group, including Mobitel, whose heads would be re-designated Chief Operating Officers. Earlier these companies had independent CEOs.
“Normally such an appointment should be intimated to staff through a staff notice which has not happened so far,” the sources said.
On Tuesday, Mr. De Silva had not come to the office, the sources said.
SLT, a listed company at the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE), is yet to inform the CSE of the new appointment, which is a compulsory requirement under CSE rules.
On January 2, SLT informed the CSE of Mr Greg stepping down. (Bandula)
