Jul 09, 2013 (LBT) - Index dip slows down: The bourse was on a volatile note today hovering around the 6,000 mark for most part of the day to finally closer lower with a 15 point dip at 5,980. No major selling pressure was witnessed today while a slow return selected buying interest was observed. Nation Lanka Finance, Nestle, Ceylinco Insurance and Cargills were the main negative contributors to the index.

No crossings but interest in JKH and SAMP; Sampath Bank topped the turnover list today with 281k shares changing hands. Following the sharp drop in value in the counter buying interest returned as it gained 0.6% to LKR193.0. Buying returned to John Keells Holdings as well. The counter generated volume of 144k as it closed at LKR241.8 (+0.3%).

Interest in selected counters: Investor interest was noted in Central Finance and Ceylinco Insurance as the former registered 3 on board blocks of 60k, 60k and 50k at LKR182.0 and LKR183.0 while closing flat for day. The latter however lost 4.1% for the day to close at LKR1100.0. Some interest was observed in Chevron Lubricants and Overseas Reality as well.

Retail interest in TWOD and CIFL: Retail favourite counters Touchwood Investments and Central Investments and Finance saw comparatively higher investor interest with the former after weeks of losses recording some buying interest to gain 15.4% to LKR4.5 while the latter dipped further touching new 52-week low.

Colombo Stock Market extended losses for the fifth consecutive day followed by price depreciations in index weight George Stuart Finance by 28%, Nestle by 1.4% and Ceylinco Insurance by 4%. Benchmark ASI lost 15.48 points (-0.26%) to close at 5,980.16 and S&P SL 20 Index lost 3.53 points (-0.11%) to close at 3,347.96.

Daily market turnover slipped to two week low of LKR 254mn. Sampath Bank with LKR 54mn, John Keells Holdings with LKR 35mn and Central Finance with LKR 20mn were the largest contributors to the market turnover.

Touchwood Investments, John Keells Holdings and PC House were the heavily traded stocks during the day.

A total of 87 stocks recorded price declines while 23 stocks reached 52 week low prices during the day.

Foreign participation for the day was 16% and foreign investors were net sellers with a marginal net outflow of LKR 2.4mn.

Cash map today end at 44%.
