A new Director General will be appointed for the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) before the end of the next month to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Professor Hareendra Dissabandara, Chairman of the SEC Dr. Nalaka Godahewa told The Nation Gain last week.
Furthermore, Dr. Godahewa said that the Commission is now in the process of evaluating options as means of selecting the most apt individual to head the SEC, which consists of ten non-executive members who together constitutes the policy making arm of the regulator.
“Deputy Director General of SEC Dhammika Perera has been overseeing the activities and operating as the officer-in-charge of the Commission since Prof. Dissabandara’s resignation in May,” he remarked. Adding, he said that SEC has, however, functioned smoothly over the past two months despite the absence of a Director General.
