Usually I do not copy paste news but thought of doing so in this time because there may be concerned people linked some way with the undermentioned finance companies. ( depositors, minority shareholders etc. )

News 1

Central Investment and Finance Limited (CIFL) former Chairman M. A. Deepthi Perera who had been remanded by the Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Kusala Sarojini Weerawardena for allegedly obtaining a passport on forged documents was yesterday released on bail.

CFIB officials told Court that the suspect Deepthi Perera is alleged to have obtained a passport in 2000 using several forged documents.

He is also alleged to have obtained a forged National Identity Card, the CFIB officials told Court. Judge Weerawardena directed the suspect Deepthi Perera to tender the passport that he had obtained in 2000.

News 2

It is suspected that the previous owner of Kanrich Finance Limited, Deepthi Perera and a director of its current associating company D**** S***** have bought a Teak land amounting to Rs 1 billion in Thailand.

The Teak land has been bought from Touchwood Private Limited company of Thailand, reports say.

It is suspected that money obtained from the customers of Kanrich Finance Limited under promissory notes has been used to buy the particular land.

Due to the issue emerged regarding the history of Kanrich , the customers are heard to be paying more attention towards financial interactions done with the company.

Janashakthi Finance & Investment  -> Next Finance -> Kanrich Finance

JFI was owned by Depthi Perera , the current owner of CIFL

Guy don;t get confused , below  is old info NOT NEW .

But good to know  the past about CIFL so we can learn and identify  something for the future about such companies . Below is talk from 2006.

Lot of talk but no action, integrity or full implementation.Being over ambitious is another fault. Interesting details  about CIFL history, Deepthi Perera, ASPIC and  how

"CIFL's target is to complete two thousand houses within three years. Three luxury housing projects close to the city have been earmarked for the near future."

"The goal of CIFL is to be the most respected and innovative local financial services company. "

Thanks Chinwi. I am not a holder of any CIFL shares but try to understand the loop holes that could be used by top management level to make ordinary society hell. Love to see his death sentence if he is a cheater..Wink

yes, now I realized they have reproduced something happened in 2006 ( passport case).

Somehow , now we know the links and the history.

For past many months my wife tried to push me to FD with them. One of her close friends deposited her life saving at a very high rate and getting 1st class treatments from them. Others also wanted to follow her and get good return and similar treats, advocating me daily about their best finance company.

Finally I scolded to stop those fancy talks.

This is a 2 way problem.

When public figures pose in Advertisements, we try to believe them. I think these public figures should have more social responsibility and general knowledge before choosing to pose and promote/pick such companies .
They should be selective.

But they don;t pose/promote necessarily due to the the company being really good but for the money they are getting.

On the other hand, public should not be so naive to follow such people without thinking and researching.

Doesn't the Companies Act prevent a person who was convicted in a criminal case to act as a Director of a company.

How did SEC allow M. A. Deepthi Perera to act as a director?

Good Morning Chinwi

It would appear Deepthi Perera has absconded from Sri Lanka and sold out Aspic without any advice to myself on sold all it appears to Roscoe Maloney 9Touchwood) and then for payment Maloney has purchased Aspic by swapping for the Rs 1 Billion teak land in Thailand were Perera's wife and son reside.
All incorrect and if Roscoe Maloney is correct why has he forwarded signed Sales and Purchase agreements which have amounted to zero!
Sincerely

Wayne Abbott

If Roscoe Maloney (Touchwood) is now Aspic Big Chief and is selling all Aspics companies would he not be accountable to pay my proceedings out of the sold companies Lumbini Aquarium and so forth!
This is illegal to dilute all companies holdings without paying out a shareholder or for that matter advising the shareholder of intented actions.
I will forward all to SEC and other associated company watchdogs in Sri Lanka to stop this happening.
Respectfully my regards to all within the Sri Lanka Equity Forum it has been a pleasure to know there is decent and structured business people in Sri Lanka

Maloney won't hang around to talk pleasantries with you! Neither will the SEC unless you want to be a case study in the next Chartered Accountancy exams

Bang heads first, ask questions later.

This govt hand pick crooks and appoint them to manage important institution.

Why ?

They want to make money rather than developing the country

Who recommend these people ? Are they friends or supporters of Govt

Wayne Abbott- Thanks for keeping the forum informed of your plight. However, I encourage you to take leagle action against these rogues.

Public Interest litigation against them and also against the regulators who kept quiet all these days should be initiated by the legal aid NGOs in Sri Lanka.

If judiciary is not an independent institution what is the purpose of
public interest litigation

Some of judges get political appointments after retirement Some contest
election after retirement

How can we expect independent judiciary?

Anything endorsed by national figures like this should not be believed. One should know that these people do extra ordinary things not because of their intelligence but because the physical strength. Most brand ambassadors may have not even seen the things they advocate after becoming Miss Sri Lanka, best actor, best dancer, best singer, super star or someone.

Conclusion: To express broad base lie only one need a national figure!
