Colombo bourse snapped the five day losing streak and ended on positive territory today. Price dip in blue-chips such as John Keells Holdings (LKR 231.90, -3.4%) dragged the ASI to 5,837 level (-60 points) in the morning session but it managed closed at 5,923.34 with a gain of 27.69 points (+0.47%) aided by price appreciation in index heavy counters such as Ceylon Tobacco (LKR 1,202.00, +8.5%), Nestle (LKR 2,184.00, +7.3%) and Sri Lanka Telecom (LKR 40.80, +4.62). S&P SL 20 index decreased by 8.30 points (+0.89%), to close at 3,319.33.

Daily market turnover was LKR 503mn. John Keells Holdings, the mostly traded stock topped the turnover list with a turnover of LKR 179mn which was supported by several negotiated deals. Accordingly a total of 0.3mn shares of JKH changed hands at a price range of LKR 230.00 per share. JKH contributed 36% to the total turnover. Further Distilleries with LKR 39mn along with a negotiated deal of 0.14mn shares at a price of LKR 192.00 per share and National Development Bank with LKR 28mn were the next top contributors to the daily turnover. 0.2mn shares of Lanka Ceramic changed hands as a crossing at a price of LKR 125.00. Almost 22% of the daily turnover was contributed by off-the-floor deals.

75 stocks reached 52-week low during today’s session with two blue chips, Sri Lanka Telecom and Carsons Cumberbatch. Meanwhile John Keells Holdings, Valliable One and Nations Finance were mostly traded stocks during the day.

Foreign participation for the day was 31% whereas foreign investors were net sellers with a net outflow of LKR 96.2mn. Foreign net outflows were seen in counters such as John Keells Holdings (LKR 127mn), Lanka Ceramic (LKR 24mn) and Valliable One (LKR 6mn) while foreign net inflows were seen in Distilleries (LKR 39mn).
