The final approval from the President's office is being awaited to appoint Dhammika Perera to the post of Director General at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), reports say.
He is currently functioning as the deputy Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The post of SEC Director General has fallen vacant since the Prof. Hareendra Dissabandara resigned last May.
It is said that Dhammika Perera was chosen for the post several weeks ago after considering applications.
An old boy of St. Joseph's College, Colombo, Dhammika Perera holds Degree in Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. His research for the accomplishment of the MBA was incidentally titled ‘The Impact of Corporate Governance on Insider Dealing: An Empirical Examination in the Context of Companies Listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange’. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from the same university.
Perera has been an active figure in the stock market for over 25 years.
Dhammika also held the post of Director Investigations of the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
A probe by his team led to the expulsion of SEC chairman Michael Mack.
Investigations were conducted by his team against former CSE chairman and present Chairman of John Keels Holdings and his father.
The tough measures taken on Nawaloka Hospital, Environmental Resources PLC and its Directors after probes by his team was also much talked of in the business field.
