In addition to the Sampath and Pan Asia Banks ,which are mainly under the control of Secretary to the Ministry of Transport and casino businessman Dhammika Perera ,his Vallibel One PLC and, LB Finance PLC are also to be merged which will lead to the establishment of a new company merging all four companies, reports say.

Dhammika Perera's investment adviser and the Chairman of the Pan Asia Bank Nimal Perera is said to be the mastermind of the plan.

The merger is based on the recent suggestion put forward by Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal to merge 58 non-bank financial institutions.

Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal has informed the heads of banks and financial institutions to inform the Central Bank regarding their decisions on merging before March 31.

He has further stated that the Central Bank will mediate and set up required merging plans for the institutions which fail to do so.

According to economists, Cabraal put forward the particular suggestion with the ulterior motive of leaving the banks and financial institutions on the hands of few individuals.

They have further stated that such strategy of providing only few individuals with financial power is a method used by countries under dictatorial rule.

According to Forbes Asia magazine the wealthiest man in the island is Dhammika Perera.

There will be a good run for SAMP hopefully. I have collected over the last few months and see the free down fall from 190s to 160s.

They will save millions in the form of Operational costs and administrative expenses. More focused advertising and mega client base!!

Commercial Bank and HNB have alot of hunting to do to grab good companies..

I feel NTB will be left out but JKH needs to spring a surprise!!

Cheers!

Those day it was Harry Jayawardena the one who tried to merge some private banks. He couldnt do it due to various reasons.
Harry was not a popular character for a while after his failed attempt to take over Sampath via HNB.
Could have been a worthy merge.

Can we expect a huge run of firms in DP's umbrella? VONE, PABC already started their run?

Current scenario HNB and SAMP are now individual giants which can gobble smaller fish Smile

Looks like DP will have an advantage here with control of 4 finance related firms and knows whats happening in each of them and knows capable people handling these firms.
DP mergers will have less operational complications and staff related issues and they are all doing good, except PABC last year has had a bad time...

Cheers!

Above discussions, if practical would cause a positive trend of said counters. Let us see tomorrow how one counter VFIN reacts after stagnating for a long time.

Are we day dreaming or is there a real possibility for such a deal.
