Treasury Secretary PBJ under pressure to quit

Speculation is rife in the portals of the Ministry of Finance and Planning and the Ministry of Economic Development that its all-powerful chief executive (Secretary) Dr. P.B. Jayasundera is to quit in the next few months.

The reason? Heavy pressure from persons with high political connections over financial disbursements for their projects.

Highly placed sources said disagreement on financial matters relating to mega development projects between Dr. Jayasundera and the hierarchy is brewing up and making it uneasy for the latter to continue in the treasury secretary’s post.

The Treasury Secretary, the most powerful bureaucrat in recent times having survived many different administrations by bowing to various political needs, has been under pressure too from some government ministers and persons with high political connections for funding requests. The Treasury is strapped for cash and a tight squeeze has been enforced on many projects. The sources said that Dr. Jayasundera may seek a foreign appointment, either in the diplomatic service or an international lending agency.

This is not the first time that there has been speculation of the Treasury Secretary quitting. In the past he has either not commented or denied such reports.

Addressing the garments’ manufacturing industry last month, he made several references to his tenure in public service and inferred it might not be long before he leaves (the post). Noting that this is his 40th year in public office, he had said that (his) work would be carried out the way it should “in the next few months and days I am in the public service …”

He should have gone long time ago . The courts found him guilty and was fined . How could such a person be appointed to a very important post of the country is a question that never be answered .

Comparing persons who held that position previously and their performance , he is far below of them and during his tenure only our GDP growth became minus . Doesn't that itself show his performance ?

Keeping him for so long period , who has got to pay the cost ?

Even it is late better to have change and that would have an immense positive effect on country's economy as well as the Stock Market .

Do you think only CBSL ? Everything . Major burden for the economy comes from CEB , CPC ,MIHIN and SRILANKAN AIRLINE . Today SRILANKAN airline is swallowing major portion of taxpayers money . Why was this taken from EMIRATES . They were managing it properly and there was no cost to the country . Who asked it to be takenover ? Now the general trend in the world is governments are disposing airline holdings . QANTAS , JIAL etc. Who asked MIHIN ? . Who is benefitting it ?

This regime is not only politicizing . They and their close allied cronies are making billions at our cost . This is what depicting in the CSE .

You are correct

But people vote for them

WHY?

Other fellows also did same thing from 1977 to 2004

They never say they also did same thing But will not repeat

They ask power to do the something

People know it very well

-Law and order
-Corruption
-Nepotisisam
-Politicization of of state organization
-Collapse of Financial institutions
-Collapse of foreign policy of the country and politicization of diplomatic service
- Handling of country,s economy

All are correct
