Let me give you the one example of the power of the long term investing and the power of the compound interest. Well, Here is the power of the Long term investing and the power of investing in the multibaggers.

This is a True Example.

One Shareholder has invested Rs.18,000 in 100 Shares of Wipro in 1980 during it’s Public Issue (IPO). Today after 30 years, according to current market price of Wipro Shares the 100 Shares of Wipro in 1980 are worth of Rs.374 Crores after adding Dividends, Bonuses & Splits…..!!!!

This Shareholder is from place called Amalner, a small tiny town in Jalgaon District... where Wipro`s mother industy is located.

This is the power of compounding and investing for the long term in the fundamentally strong companies. Just tell me that how many people had subscribed the IPO of Wipro? Probably hundreds of thousands of people right? But How many of them stay invested in the same stock for full 30 Years? Well, Only 1 Person. And that 1 Person has made a fortune.

Many of you will argue that, but this is purely a luck. But well, this is not the luck, This is the best example of long term vision. If the fundamentals of the company don’t change than it’s not the time to exit from the company. So believe in long term investing and believe me, you will become financially free over the time…

You see, the way our companies and SEC operate, the Old people who had invested in shares when they were young would not get that sort of a return in CSE shares.

With all rights, share issues etc, mainly used to appease the share holders so that they may obtain Capital Gains and very less or no dividends.

So if rights issues are made and this old guy does not purchase these additional shares, what would be his plight?
He would get crumbs!

True enough my dad has inveted something below 100thousand in few companies in late 1980s and now they worth millions, where he received dividends, splits and bonuses! And because of his PF only I can trade now Rolling Eyes

So I also try to invest at least on medium run as a habit! scratch

Well I agree, in the cse medium term investing seems to be the best strategy. Who knows if my dad has traded actively he may have become a billionaire by now! king

So the ability in differentiation of companies as short, medium, long term investing would make this game more easier!

This sound very good to hear. But I will tell you another real life story. My father a Sri Lankan investor invested Rs 2mn in US equities via Scottish Provident International (SPI) well known fund management company in UK about 15 years ago. Name of the investment plan was momentum and fund were invested in technology companies in US. The local agent for SPI was Senaratne Associates. This investment was for our higher education.

Nine months ago when my sister needed some money to begin her masters degree at Princeton University. But when my father tried to divest his investment, he got a shock of his life! realisalbe value of the shares/investment was only about US$ 600 (Rs 65,000).

Then he immediately called the UK company to check the actually status. The woman Investment advisor who answered the phone was very rude and he was told that all shares fell in value during last 15 years due to Tech Bubble, Enron Crisis, Subprime and US economic depression.

If he kept that Rs 2mn in a Sri Lankan Fixed Deposit, today it would have been worth over Rs 32mn. But he was a long term investor and he paid dearly for it.

This is a true story. Anybody could today talk to Senerathne Associate an inquire about it.

Compounding is as valid for traders as it is to investors, probably more so. 1 rupee from me went through three trades last week.

share bought sold gain
LGL 55.5 58 2.5%
GRAN 206 258 23%
MBSL 50 55.4* 10.8%

* i haven't sold yet

now let's compund

1.025*1.23*1.108=1.4

40% gain on that rupee after paying transaction charges

I'm not a day trader, but this is why some day traders in markets like the US make a killing. they have automated trading platforms that execute around 100 trades a day these get compounded and leveraged.
Shocked
