That is good when you are not sure what you are doing

Well…if you can identify the stocks that may outperform the market in the future, then why not go and invest your full money in those stocks. You can decide distribution of funds among the selected stocks as per your liking. This may be dependent on your risk tolerance, expected return, period of investment etc.

But don’t think that investing in stocks as many as possible will shield you against the market volatility or provide you a reasonable return. That era is gone now where almost all stocks in the CSE had a run invariably. There are plenty of stocks which are now overvalued and therefore either requires a correction or a substantial growth in the earnings to justify current price levels. Avoid investing in such stocks as much as possible unless you are a gambler.

My advice to new comers is buy highly capitalized stocks but only when the price of that stock is rising. Never ever when prices are declining. Keep that in mind. Trend is your friend. Sell when declining. That should be your portfolio.

i'm not so sure about this. this may be good advice for other stock markets.
here, if you take shares with high market capitalization they usually remain stagnant. they could drop but again rises but sometimes not to the original value giving the false sense of it's going up.

That was a general guideline for newcomers. at least they will not loose in the long run. Better than buying junk and loosing everything.
