I remember it used to rain heavily during Vesak poya days. At the moment it's hot and humid. It used to rain in north, east and central a few months back. I heard that the weather was so unnatural, and every time the farmers started planting they got the rain at the wrong time destroying whatever they did.

like to hear how weather is going on at the moment, is it unnatural in different regions, specially agricultural districts, plantations, tea, rubber regions. very valuable information. also mini hydro power reservoirs.

Owing to the prevailing dry weather conditions in areas in Sri Lanka’s central hills, the water levels of the Maussakele Reservoir and the Castlereagh Reservoir have dropped significantly. According to Ada Derana correspondent in the area the water level of the Maussakele Reservoir has dropped from 50 feet to 29 while Castlereagh’s 60 feet water level has descended to 47. This has also gravely affected the power generation at Hydro Power Stations such as Lakshapana, Canyon and Wimalasurendra.

The Mini Hydros do not have any reservoirs, that means if there is enough water, then there will be generation. the generation at the mini hydros are mostly depend on the location of the power plant, if it is located down stream of the river where upstream is rich in forest patches,to have very high retention then it the river will have reliabvle and constant flow, eneabling decent generation over the dry period.. (VPEL erathna, VLL power plants and PAP rathnapura power plants are in good locations.)

VPEL gives their monthly generation on the below address

http://www.vallibel-hydro.com/investor_relations/power_generation.htm

VLL gives their YTD and current month plant factors on their home page.Just multiply by the number of days X plant capacity(in kW) X 24 to arrive at the number of units generated.
