What sector would be a better investment in the short term. Both sectors have a lot of potential but in the short term what's better.

If market condition is good not only stocks in above sectors but also stocks in other sectors too will go up in the short run. If we see tea bull market tea stocks will have run in the short, mid and long term. If see bull market in banking then banking stocks will go up. If we see bull market in hotels their stocks will go up. If we see bull market in poultry their stocks too will go up. Yes Plantation sector is massively undervalued. Plantation especially tea is number one undervalued sector and commodity in the CSE.

Very interesting messages. Thank you. It is time to identify value companies which are in growth stages. In some period these growth companies can have lower earnings due to short term events. In the mid and long run they will generate more and more cash. Did anybody identify any value companies with growth prospects? Some industries, currencies, commodities and stocks will become favourable industries, currencies, commodities and stocks in the coming years and coming two decades. There are few common mega trends in Kenya, India and Sri-Lanka. Similarly they have their own mega trends. What Sri-Lanka is going to produce more? What type of quality and rare commodity can supply to the global market? How will aging population in Europe, North America and Japan is going to create demand in the coming years? What are the opportunities in export market? In what area they are going to become self-sufficient in the coming years. Which items they will import more? How many tourists are going to visit in the coming years? What is the Air traffic going to be in Asia? How many Boeing Jets will import to Asia in the coming decade? Finally what about changing demographic patterns and how they going to create demand for things? The list is goes on……………….!

I will mention simple maths here. KAHA is trading around Rs.40/. On the other hand some of the top tea companies such as TPL, BALA, BOPL, MASK, UDPL and MADU are trading below Rs. 40. MADU, MASK and BOPL are trading huge discount to the group. If KAHA is trading around Rs.40 how much worth stocks such as TPL, MASK, BOPL, BALA, and UDPL AND MADU now? IF x is worth this much how much worth all Ys.

Arguably, KGAL is one of the best plantation stocks in the CSE. They are the largest natural rubber producer. Their Earnings from rubber could come down as rubber prices are going to stay low for some period. However, their tea earnings will go up. They have some coconut too. Bottom line of GRAN will improve due to future earnings of TAFL and under the favourable industry conditions in the future. When grain prices come down during second half of this year GRAN should benefit lot. YALA season grain output should go up when compare with corresponding last year.

I feel poultry as plantation shares are vulnerable to labour unrest and adverse weather conditions etc.

Kgal not moved yet .

kgal started today  .I think easy 10% gain , from dividend + price appreciation.

I am going for both. Why? Stage of market. There are Less appreciated stocks in both sectors. Great value and lower p/e ratios when compare with market P/E ratio. Finally their trend is up.

Friday i collected some plantations with following logic :

UDPL --> credit shd go to Valuepick identifying this, when i analysed thisPEis around 4 and they have remarkable profit growth compare to previous quartet with massive 2400%

HOPL -->PE of 6, with 130% growth , also due to strong mgt , this is Mr.Dammika Perera's plantation

Bopl --> strong high grown Tea plangation. Good growth. Still this is trading around 14, with PE corection easily can reach 20,this is trading at very discounted price.

Mal x -> i bought purely on less number of shares compare to Mal normal share.

Hope for the best !
