Who will win this Presidential Elections is a question that draws emotional response from many quarters as to why we should vote for MR or MY3.

What I wanted was some results of polls done. Here are some
a. This forum's own poll (by Sstar)suggests a 74% victory for MY3 with 3100+ votes currently
http://forum.srilankaequity.com/t39135-mahinda-vs-maithri-opinion-poll
b. Similar polls elsewhere also suggest the same with 74.4% with 12100+ votes currently
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SL2015President

One could assume this as urban phenomena. But even a more methodical survey, though it does not directly ask the participant who he will vote for, seems to indicate at grass root level cost of living is an issue and they seek to change it. They also believe that elections are essential at this juncture , perhaps to do something about it.

Foreign sources seem to think MY3 will win
"The latest defections from Rajapaksa's ruling coalition suggest that Sirisena will narrowly win the presidency, Eurasia Group's Sasha Riser-Kositsky said in a research note on Monday"
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/12/23/sri-lanka-election-idUSL3N0U72GB20141223

There are rumors that a government units political wing estimated MY3 will win by 52% also

So, who will win. Well its not clear to me, because my glass is empty and so is my bottle on the eve of the New Year. But I see swans ahead,.... hopefully not black in colour

Cheers everyone... Hic hic

Colombo University Survey predicts Maithri victory

A Colombo University survey has found that common opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena was ahead in the polls with 53% of the votes.

According to the survey report released on December 27, the assessment was made by taking into consideration the Sinhalese voter base while predicting that the Muslim and Tamil votes would be equally divided between the candidates. It revealed that under these conditions Maithripala Sirisena would be ahead by 200,000 votes.

Against the background of the main Muslim and Tamil parties having pledged their allegiance to the common candidate, the survey revealed that he was likely to secure a 900,000 majority.

The survey also revealed that 28% of those who cast their votes for President Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2010 would vote for the common candidate at this election while 11% of those who voted for the incumbent were undecided as to whom to vote.

According to the survey, 38% of first-time voters would vote for President Mahinda Rajapaksa and 33% for Mr. Sirisena while 13 to 15% had not decided on their choice of candidate.

The survey team was headed by Dr. Lalithsiri Gunaruwan and Dr. D.S. Jayaweera - See more at: http://www.dailymirror.lk/60103/university-survey-predicts-maithri-victory#sthash.9e312uzc.dpuf
