We all need to understand and appreciate the different methods of stock analysis. We are used to fundamental analysis so much, we think that best EPS or lowest XPER company should always be the best performing share in the market.

Fundamental Analyst requires fact and figures from the Financial Statements and other information sources in order to determine a good investment opportunity. Technical analysis is very much the opposite, it does not take into consideration any of the fundamental indicators instead it considers the lagging or leading movement of a stock, charts and graphs, and other technical indicators to determine a good investment opportunity. Ironically, the most fundamentally sound share in the market may perhaps be the technically most unattractive investment or vice versa. Therefore the understanding of the difference between the two types of analysis is very important.

When a technical analyst present a list of shares we should not argue about the facts and figures, instead we should try to analyze and understand the charts and graphs presented by him to support his findings. If a technical analyst present a list of shares without the support of charts and graphs then it is not acceptable. This is similar to a fundamental Analyst presenting a list of shares without the support of PER, PBV and DPS valuation.

Any presentation regarding a potential price movement of a share without the support of credible analysis or information will not be tolerated by the forum and will be deleted without any warnings.

In order to avoid confusion between the two types of Analysis, we have created a separate forum for Chart and Graphs. Moderator Gann is in charge of that section. Those who are not familiar with such analysis should avoid visiting the said section of the forum.

Views are welcome!

I invest in fundamentally good shares and use technical analysis to time the buy and sell decisions. It's a good thing you have open a section for technical analysis as well. Each candlestick chart tells a story it's upto us to figure out that story.

Dear Quibit,

I found http://www.tradeking.com/education/stocks/fundamental-analysis-explained to be a nice guide on fundamental analysis, it sort of gives a walk through of the process. I was actually able to follow this guide and evaluate a couple of local companies. May be we should collect a couple of sources like that for each methodology and make them available for users?

Hope this helps.
