I thought there would be many self made milliners in this forum. I still believe that there are more successful people in this forum who dont want to speak up.

Up to now I've not seen any post from u clarifying ur initial investment and return saga as questioned by other guys..for you to multiply a 2000 u must've played casino under the guise of stock market it seems.. but no offence we all want to earn money so why dont u lay down the strategy or enlighten us of your successful story???

He hee.. asking others how much they earn is also a nice strategy my friend.. Twisted Evil

Its nice to have a down to earth millionaire in the forum.. welcome!!

if you have the right stocks, you should wait. at present, fundamentals are taking a beating. as tubal said, we must wait till the dumb money is thrown away.

currently i have almost a 10% unrealized loss in my portfolio bt was able to make very small profits thru small day trades since im not taking much of a risk

@NPP-my loss is realized,i'll reenter with solid shares after these three IPO's ,one of my pick is CINS,i love it....

@slstock-i lost in some good fundamental shares, and some speculative shares too,but i ddnt lost in illiquids,i had to sold to collect money for IPOs.....those are hard earned money.sometimes it is good to sell at lost rather than holding and bear opportunity cost.hope IPOs would work for me.

2000 ----> 5mn in 5 & 1/2.

If i were you after a couple of good years i would have liquidated all of my assets, take massive loan and invest all of them in the market. Had you done that you would have had alot more money right now.

IPO's are a waste of time. I suggest that you learn from your losses and become a better trader

Just thought of adding my story. Now I am 35.

I entered the market in 1996 when I was in the university first year and when there was a plantation rush. I did not have much of money. I invested in low value shares using money I earned from offering tuition to AL students. (These facts to establish the level of the market. I purchased all (if not most) plantation sector shares at 10/- in IPOs. DIST at 3.75, LWL at 5.75 I remember these two because they were in my PF until recent past)

Those days it was a difficult to trade. Luckily we had internet to look at CSE website its all about calling the broker on one day prior to the sale or purchase. Brokers only had one or two telephones.

You can assume my starting value as less that 5000r.

I sold around 50% of my PF before RW came into power in 2003 and around another 40% after the election. I kept the balance 10% with me since it had a sentimental value but sold very recently.

I entered again around 2004 and sold everything (less initial 10%) of it to part finance my house in 2007. Entered soon after in 2008 through leverage and further debt in early 2009 I am still happily trading.

I have a well diversified portfolio of investment. I have invested in areas perhaps some of you may not thought of. I have a reasonable net worth. These days I am moderately geared because the rates are low I always can match the risk to return.

There are stories about Mr A earned this much, Mr B earned this much and so forth. When I see most of the posts in the forum the feeling I get is that people are looking for shortcuts to get rich. Most of the topics either starts with HOW ABOUT....or WILL IT GO UP...etc..There are no shortcuts to be richer. This is a ZERO sum game pals, look at the things with a long term plan.

After all I sleep well. Sleep

+ rep for you
I am much younger than you and started recently (1 year). I totally respect your story and how you have gone about it. The last para about shortcuts to getting rich is so true and it deeply saddens me.

one reason that people who hav been in the market for so long are successful is that they have the patience gained through NOT having the internet trading facility. Newcomers as a result of this try to trade everyday in a bid to getting rich overnight.

I have a friend who also started recently but does not have internet trading facility and he does not intend to get it. He has made some investments and said he would not try to sell for a few quarters.
Respect.

now im 40
I entered in 2006...had a real dull time in 2008..my portfilio value declined more than 50%...yet continued buying...jkh was Rs 50.00 in 2008 december ...and by that time I have even purchased JKH at 220...so i did dollar cost averaging..there were many shares that doubled since 2008 and i sold whenever a share doubled and bought a one that i thought would next poised to double...i had no discrimination...kshastriya (now dunamis capital) , ceylon galss, dimo, east, are such lovely stocks that gave me luck...so were rights issue...watapota rights gave me superb gains...and now i m holding and slowly buying..i never went to leveraging...now once again my protfolio has decliend by 50% again...yet with positive mentality i am collecting ...i started collecting tjl and plc both were declingin and still i collect...
