The bourse continued to be buffeted by net outflows due to the current, unstable, political situation, that saw the benchmark ASPI decline by 0.09% to 7,001.08 points and the more sensitive S&P SL 20 Index by 0.10% to 3,911.11 points on a nominal Rs 318.84 million turnover at yesterday's trading.
The bourse recorded a net foreign outflow (NFO) of Rs 88.48 million at yesterday's trading, taking NFOs in the six weeks to yesterday to Rs 4.29 billion. Such outflows also cause depreciating pressure on the rupee.

Yesterday's NFOs were led by LAUGFS (Rs 58.5 million) and the market's largest capitalized stock JKH (Rs 51.75 million). Yesterday saw 74 losers as opposed to only 57 gainers. Total number of shares which changed hands was a nominal 15.48 million.

When compare with total holding of long term foreign investors in listed companies in Sri-Lanka , this outflow is very small quantity and negligible. Time to time just like inflow there will be outflow as well.

One has to analyse total long foreign investors and other funds in many listed companies such as JKH, SPEN, COMB, HNB,SPEN, DIST, AEL, SHL,SAMP, MPRH, TAFL, GRAN, DIAL, SLTL, LHCL, UDPL, PLC, NEST, FIN etc. They have faith on those companies.

Real performance of share prices of above companies will see in the remaining stages of current bull market, in a strong market condition and in a sector oriented bull markets in the future.

I think investors will look for value opportunities in Asia Ex-China (those days they wanted Ex-Japan) and The USA instead of Europe now. Among all types of market frontier markets have more value. As Sri-Lanka market has more value and they are in the middle stage of current bull market, we should see strong market activities in the coming months and should advance further toward end of 2015 and in 2016.

Dear V.P,
There are many foreign outflow in this  political uncertainty time.
So... Is this time suitable to buy those counters like JKH, SPEN....?
Will be after the election period suitable to sell them?

When compare with other markets frontier markets such as Sri-Lanka and Pakistan are doing well. This is the time to go behind value stocks.  Intelligent investors parked their money in Food and beverages sector in China before the current sell off. When market becomes overvalued some investors will make some profits. There were worst types of political scenarios in Pakistan and rating agencies down graded their country. Still they are having one of the best bull markets in the world after recent sell off. Even India and Pakistan had foreign outflow. Later their markets rebounded strongly.  To tell the truth before buying any stock you should identify their personality and future prospects etc. Among blue chips SPEN stagnated for a long time. As a principal if I make losses in some stocks I will not touch them again.

Different people have different strategies. Some buy stocks for very short term. This is very dangerous. Buying stocks at least for five year is safe and you can have some of the biggest gains provided you buy outstanding stocks. I believe current volatility in stocks markets should ease in the coming weeks. Some have some profit targets. So they sell when they see their targets.  Some can miss the biggest rally in stocks if they don’t have any idea of the businesses that they hold.

Don’t forget many global markets are overvalued. Currently Sri-Lanka market is one of the undervalued markets in the worlds and is very attractive on valuation. It should go up sooner than later on valuation and future prospects in some industries.

If you want to trade stocks such as JKH and SPEN you have to follow them very closely.

Good luck!

It is known fact that local investors particularly retailers & speculators dispose their stock immediately once they see the profit margin exceeds prevailing interest rates. It is due to fear of losing money in case of sudden market dip or satisfying themselves for marginally higher profits.

Those who engage in investment practices thinking of medium & long term marginal values hang on cautiously but monitoring all kinds of causes for market dip. They can realize market tempos easily whether it is temporal or constant linked to time period.

Those who are vigilant grab the best counters as they foresee the reversal of current outflows being incurred now is imminent by end of next month.

Best test is select about 15 good counters of different sectors & workout the value difference between now & one month back. That will be part of future profits if you can afford few of those now.
