The order was issued consequent to a case filed by Western Provincial Council member Renuka Dushyantha Perera.
Perera alleged that the CB Governor had manipulated the issue of Treasury bonds for the benefit of Arjun Aloysius. The court was told that the issue was a 30-year bond auction for Rs.1 billion on Feb. 27. The CB received 36 offers amounting to Rs. 20 billion. This enabled the Central Bank to accept Rs. 10 billion.
Perera sought the intervention of the court to impound passports of both suspects.
The Magistrate declared that passports couldn’t be impounded as the court had not been given their numbers.
Although attorney-at-law Kolitha Dharmawardena, who represented the Governor sought an opportunity to make representations, the acting Magistrate said that only the Governor could speak for himself if he was present in court. The Governor and his son-in -law were not present in court.
