Sri Lanka over the weekend in Kandy established a Guinness record of holding the biggest tea party in a joint initiative by Sri Lanka Tourism, Sri Lanka Tea Board, SriLankan Airlines and Asia Pacific Onboard Travel (APOT) founded by Keethi Hapugasdeniya in partnership with global brand Basilur. The Sri Lankan feat set was 35,000 beating the 32,681 set at the Nehru Stadium in Indore, India. President Maithripala Sirisena consumed the 32,682nd cup and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe enjoyed the 32,683rd cup. Here President Sirisena moments before enjoying the cup of Ceylon Tea along with SriLankan Airlines Director and pro-tem CEO Rakitha Jayawardena and APOT founder Hapugasdeniya. Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau Chairman Dr. Rohantha Athukorala officiated at the public, tourist and industry engagement in the quest for the Guinness record.
