If it hit Rs.150,profitability of companies which exports different types of products  will go up without any effort. The biggest winners will be tea companies and tea exporters. AUD has formed its major down trend.

Sri-Lankan rupee already had devaluation in 2012 and after devaluation it shot up from Rs.110 to Rs.137 against USD.

Even it stays around Rs.137/139 profitability of many exporters will go up. Tourism revenue is also will go up.

Following exporters also will benefit

Value added rubber export companies
Poultry exporters
Exporters of Sri-Lankan Spices
Value added coconut exporters
Other exporters

It is better to keep stocks in different industries having strong outlook in our portfolio.

Good luck. government will have to borrow and service the foreign debt. This is going to widen the trade gap. Only hope is savings from crude oil and expected inflow from Diaspora and the west. Sri Lanka economy need to be managed with a vision.
We are on crossroads.

Bull Vs Bear!!!!!

COCO And HVA should go up because they are exporting companies. I see company wise COCO is better.

To curb imports it is possible to impose additional tariff reducing demand of US$ from importers. Increasing the volume of exports will narrow the trading gap. Also, more remittances from foreign workers can be expected more as higher conversion rates available.

Some economists advocates floating exchange rates bring stimulus to economy ( specially for developing countries ) provided well placed monetary policies are strictly implemented.

If it is so the following companies could become winners.

Tea Stocks

Tea companies more exposure to the USA and Europe will become top winners.

Poultry related stocks

As TAFL export poultry products to regional markets and  it will add to their profits. TAFL will have more export orders due to cost competitiveness. Gran also will benefit through TAFL.

Tourism stocks

Other export companies

In addition, some companies import some items and other raw materials from countries such as India and China etc. As their emerging currencies have dropped quiet lot some companies will have import advantage due to lower imported cost from those countries. Those who imports things from Japan or the USA etc will have to pay higher cost. In some situation, import cost will not go up despite some devaluation due to continuations weakness in commodity and other raw material globally. For example some are predicting that  oil can go below $30 as well.

I believe there could be some volatility or could have some weakness in USD in the short run against other currencies.
