I had a portfolio over Rs 1 million and had been dealing online with Asia Capital for over 5 years. With the present trend in the market I have brought down my portfolio to around 300,000 and picking a few shares whenever the price was right waiting for the market to turn. Today when placing an order my order was rejected saying I have no buying power. When inquiring I was told that you have to have a minimum half a million portfolio to deal on line. Is this a ruling by all broker firms or by few. Now to buy any share we have to go through an account officer and be lucky that somebody picks up the phone when the price is right. Are these brokers trying to ditch small investors. Are they not earning commissions on every deal whether buy or sell. Its time for the small investors to get together and go to a better Broker firm with principles. Let us ditch these brokers and show them what this forum is about.

Im also having same issue with Asia. now when I need to buy online have to deposit money or sell some share first. Otherwise system indicates no buying power to purchase shares. there is no buying power for portfolio value. Buying power is available only when money is available  for value of money have in account

Online trading systems buying power calculated real time and please find the bellow common equation.

Buying power = Account position + value coming from the % ( exposure )  of current portfolio value - total sum of the active buy orders value.

Some brokers used different variations to minimize the risk

Eg :- make exposure as 0 . then no contribution from the portfolio
some have max cap limit where u can get as a portfolio contribution
some have predefined value where to get the portfolio contribution u must exceed that value

Thanks guys. Just because there is a management change or downsizing premises these brokers should not take off hand decisions. They should have the courtesy to inform their clients the reasons for such decisions and also look at the history of clients accounts. After making money from clients if they decide to ditch the clients unceremoniously it shows the callibre of the management.
Goodbye to Asia Capital, I hope all the clients who have suffered this plight ditch these brokers and go with someone who is trustworthy.
Thanks guys.

While we see the CSE & CDS are trying to promote small time investors. They even went to the extent of allowing one share as the minimum share to purchase.
This action of the broker is contradicting the policy of the CDS which wants to popularise the stock market trading islandwide.
Therefore, in the circumstances, I suggest that the Chief of the forum must refer this matter to the CDS and have a common ruling on this matter before the other Brokers too decide to change the prevailing rules and regulations.
