Ceylon Finance Today: State-owned Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Ltd (SLIC) soon will divest its controlling stake of Lanka Hospitals Corporation PLC, government sources on Friday (06) confirmed to Ceylon FT.
Both SLIC's Life and General funds have a controlling stake of 54.4% of Lanka Hospitals Corporation (formerly Apollo Hospitals) shares.
Sources said that SLIC has so far received several unsolicited bids from leading local private hospital groups and foreign investors.
"Bids were from Rs 63 and upwards per share," they said. The company's shares closed, up 1.67% to Rs 54.90 a share on Friday. It's however understood that the Government/SLIC will divest its stake to the highest bidder after calling for tenders.
Among those who had evinced interest in the hospital were Hemas, Nawaloka and Asiri, it's learnt. The government is also planning to appoint new members to the SLIC's Director Board. According to unconfirmed reports, SLIC's controversial Managing Director T.M.R.Bangsa Jayaha will be replaced by 'Maganeguma', Chairman Keith Bernard.

Speaking to Ceylon FT, SLIC Chairman Hemaka Amarasuriya said that he was unaware about such decisions taken by top government hierarchies. Nonetheless, he said that he too was expecting a board reshuffle.

"There may be some changes," he added.
Unveiling the government's economic policy framework......in Parliament on Thursday (5), Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the government will take steps to sell the shares of State Ventures such as hotels and Lanka Hospitals, as they do not match the core competencies of State owner enterprises.

LHCL , its the haversting time now. LHCL performs very well in last quarters. it has a massive chance to grow further.
This bullshit government is going to sell a golden duck.
This is a grate unfortunate sutuation for the whole country.
I agree if its a loss maker to diversify but its a profit maler and a cash cow.
Also it has a zero debt balance sheet too.

But teller when the government owned state goes to private sector then they might do well and compete with other hospitals. and bring more value to share holders. don't you think so.

think what GOTA did when he was the chairman of Lanka hospital ??

It was already stated that the lowest bid received was 63 and foreign and local bids have been received which are much higher than Rs 63. This will be sold to the highest bidderPls go thru PM' statement in parliament   megadeal wrote:no no no ...........................

All these numbers has no basis. SLIC has no intention to sell LHCL
They might sell hotel through IPO
This is pure speculation, don't be misled.

People speculate this because of Keith Bernad being old boy of De Mazanad and close associate of HJ

But SLIC internal information says all are wild speculations.

I am 100% sure , it wont go to HJ

I also strongly feel that Lanka Hospital should start its strong journey from here onwards . I have some shares which I bought at 50/-

Today I bought some Asiri as well.

When the country has more disposable money to spend . It is natural that people spend on fast foods and cars .......,
This makes many people get all sorts of sickness like obese, heart complications diabetics .......also many child birth, .........more than all frequent health check ups, group health insurance by companies for their staff .....

Also when people have money they opt for private treatment.than state treatment.

So these developments makes business for health sector stocks to thrive, in time to come for sure .

We had to be patient like putting a net to the fish in the sea and wait a see till good amount of fish get caught.

This is my view about LHCL, Asiri.

Thank you
