Appropriate legal measures will be taken in connection with the massive amounts of US dollars deposited in a Dubai Bank by a member of "royal" family during the previous regime soon after the details of the transactions of those accounts is provided by the Federal Reserves in the United States, said Cabinet Spokesman and Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne. He said that according to reliable details available so far USD 1.086 billion are lying in one account which is owned by one member of the previous government's VVIP family. He made this observation yesterday at the cabinet briefing held at the Information Department auditorium.
"In the account of another close associate of the same VVIP family, who was also a businessman a sum of USD 500 million has been deposited while a joint account of a Ministry Secretary of the previous regime and another person had USD 1.8 billion", Minister Rajith Senaratne said.
"All these monies are in the accounts of Dubai Banks and the money has been earned by illegal means. However every dollar that is transacted is recorded in the Federal Reserve". He said the government has requested details of these accounts from the Federal Reserve to support the investigations. He added that the Federal Reserve in the US has asked for a considerable time period to find out the details of the US dollars that had been transacted through those accounts as billions of US dollars are being transacted daily.
The Minister made these remarks when a media personnel queried a statement by Chathura Senarate that said he saw the money earned illegally by the VVIPs of the previous government. The Minister said that Chathura said he saw the documents pertaining to those illegal transactions. Mass Media and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Gayantha Karunathilake, Justice and Buddhasasana Minister Wijedasa Rajapaksa. and Army Spokesman Brigadier Jayantha Jayaweera also spoke at the occasion.

This is equal to 16 Mattala airports or 10 Magampura Habours !

Stop selling immediately and start buying.
After they bring back this money in near future CSE will go to sky. ... and at last we can stop crying about Mattala because inflow is 16 times of that cost.

This will be the end talking of 'Loku Gala' in Magampura because the income is 10 Times of the money wasted for the harbour (1st phase).

The Minister said that Chathura Senaratne (his son) said he saw the documents pertaining to those illegal transactions.
FRUS has asked for a considerable time period to find out the details of the US dollars that had been transacted through those accounts as billions of US dollars are being transacted daily.

I think the best thing our politicians can do at the moment is teaching FRUS that they can use computer databases to record bank transactions. Thereafter they can instantly quarry and get the results in future cases.

Dubai billions are an old story. Now a remake and finally may draw a blank. Let alone the billions of dollars, at least find some rupees and cents.

How about the alleged Peacock mansion hidden treasures in the swimming pool covered with sand. May be competitive tenders are being invited to excavate the sand fill which may take a couple of years and again may draw a blank.

The point i am raising is untill the Govt gets closer to a point where these can be clearly established, just releasing statements to the media will only erode public confidence.

B'cos in the public eye these will be viewed as false allegations, if allegations are made without solid proof and establishing them.

In the past Dr. Rajitha has expressed his displeasure over the way in which principles of yahapalanaya is put into practice.

I can remember Ranil saying if mahinda is ousted country will save 200-300mn per day. Stating he was misusing 70Bn per yr. He said with that money and the money they save from corruption, then they will do three tyms what mahinda did from day one in office.

At least he's doing one thing three tyms of what mahinda did is borrowing money.

Personally I am not supporting any politicians as a true citizen of Srilanka. Because most of them are thieves and all the debts are left on innocent citizens of Srilanka. No matter what they have done to the country. Every voters should think that they are responsible to pay the country's debt whether they are like it or not. This corruption must be stopped and people must open their eyes.

Srilanka's current debt problem is not easy to solve like we think. It cannot be done in days but it will take another 10 to 20 years if the country cleans corruption atleast. So it is not worth it talking that another person can manage the country better than now.

Finally we should give up the habit of voting to a particular party whether it is right or not. It has been a tradition in Srilanka since the independence but we should vote for anyone who is doing good for the country and its citizens also not for politicians. Personally I blame the voters who voted wrong person. I can't blame any politicians because they were selected by us.

How many of us in Srilanka know that "BALLOT IS STRONGER THAN BULLET".
Guys if we can change our mind and supporting pure politicians and its government then we can bring the country more better than Singapore. Most of us are diverted into ethnic problems, religious problems....etc....by politicians to cover their corruption. If we all can open our eyes then there will be no problem in Srilanka. The problem is created by politicians for their political profit but we are not understanding. Just think in Srilanka that we have only Sinhalese & Tamil speaking people are living also three major religions. At this point just think if we cannot have peace in Srilanka then how can we expect peace in the world where there are too many languages , religions...etc....

when market up mahinda is to blame and when market is up is yahaplanaya good work, confidence is back.

People should look at these following factors for the market decline before blaming mahinda,

Overnight rates skyrocketing, when fixed income rates goes up usually equity market goes down. Fixed income is less riskier instrument.

Govt heavy borrowing to serve the heavy debt burden. Current govt blamed previous govt for borrowing at "Gini Poli" but they seem to borrow at same rate and higher rate than previous regime. Funny part is that this govt is going to exercise china currency swap option that previous govt took with china. Specially Harsha and Ravi criticized this move 2yrs back saying this is very bad deal.

Flip flopping policies - No one knows what the hell is going on. Is CGT going to be introduced or not. Taxes like VAT NBT and CGT is a very sensitive information. Govt or Finance minister cant change these figures once in three months according to global market condition. PM is says CGT will be introduced but no one knows how or in what capacity. Shouldn't he had proposed that sought of a tax when a proper plan how he's going to impose that tax??
best example is with the company i work for in regards to NBT payment. All know now most of the taxes you can pay online. When we tried to pay NBT last week there was a huge confusion between us and Tax department. We calculated it at 2% but they calculates it at 4%. According ravi budget we have to pay 4% but ranil new budget and last yr budget kept NBT at 2%. Finally we payed 2% with additional 2% is taken as tax payable in our accounts.

For a economy is to grow and prosper we need stable policies and clear direction. What ranil did last few weeks with several amendments was a good step in right direction. We need to grow our tax revenues to sustain the economy but govt need to give clear directive about taxes and investment decision.
