SC. Was their a floor test when RW was appointed as PM by MS with only around 40 UNP MPs in parliament?
So, MR will continue as PM, and in my opinion MS only tried his best to avoid chaos in & outside the Parliament. Finally the decision to dissolve may go for a referendum.
Don't you think an "All island peoples test" is better than a "floor test" at a time of constitutional crisis. In Sri Lanka Sovereignty is in the people and it is inalienable and at a time of constitutional crisis the people should be allowed to have their say, failing which one cannot rule out an unprecedented chaos & turmoil in the country especially at a time when the UNP govt is extremely unpopular.
There is a clear ambiguity in the 19th amendment to the constitution created by the UNP govt & now it is confirmed by the SC postponing the final decision for next month. If it was straight forward then the SC would have given its final ruling yesterday itself. So, remember the decision is hanging in the balance. So, you can expect an early general election and the UNP will be forced to face it.Yahapalanaya wrote:Did any budget or paper defeated in parliament when UNP was having 40 MPs...So don't compare that situation now..samaritan wrote:Don't jump the gun. We Srilankan should respect Rule of law.So UNP is as usual ready to face election in 2020.You people could contest at that time.

samaritan wrote:Basically there is a constitutional crisis. According to the constitution the President has the power to appoint PM irrespective of whether he or she commands majority in the parliament. So, President appointed MR like how he appointed RW following the presidential election. Now if the UNP is in disagreement with the appointment they could defeat the vote on account/budget of MR's govt without leading the country to turmoil.

The speaker convened the parliament illegally as he is mired by the winds of politics of Indian ocean. He needs to think that law is above all and executive president is above parliament.
The 19th amendement conspirated by your Ranil to remain in power forever has created this situation, and your clan has to admit the mistake and correct it asap. Otherwise future prresidents will dissolve parliament twice a month
The root cause of the present crisis is the ambiguities in the 19th amendment. At a time when such constitutional crisis reaches a deadlock only people can resolve it. This cannot be resolved by the legislature and may be not even by the SC. This has to be resolved by the 'People's Court' at a general election. The new govt then had to remedy these ambiguities in order to define powers clearly.ranferdi wrote:samaritan wrote:Basically there is a constitutional crisis. That is why NCM was brought up and the MR is defeated.
the bogus operandi cannot tolerate that.
