As there is also a gain on Other income( seems to systematically disposing their Lanka bangla shares to maintian other income) . There is a dip from Net Interst income from last quarter but it seems to be the case off last year too. Provisions for bad loan write off is also there in dec quarter will is large/

Thouhg the EPS is high their core business results can be improved I think.

With the expanding branch network and budget tax benefits , Institutional buying , attractive dividends SAMP seems to a keeper for the next foreseeable future I believe

All Banking and finance sector shares and the financially strong CINV, BUKI, CARS, GUAR groups come out with growing financials, these sectors and groups perform well purely based on their corporate performances. As expected B & F sector and groups considered to be giants in the financial market dominate the market for next 3 to 6 months. Institutional buying also focuses on the market these days.

160-170 was a good buy opportunity.we know samp is a good stock to buy and hold.but the technicals do not indicate a buying opportunity.if you buy this will be basicall a gamble.as you know stock trading means not gambling.you should then be in ballegio/mgm or other place. Mad wait for the momentum to show and MP is above MA. i will put the chart in a shortwhile Laughing

SAMP is a fundamentally sound share. Their final quarter results were bit dissapointing but I guess that's OK given they have opened 35 new branches for the year.

The 18% credit growth cap was an issue, but they got an additional 5% from foreign loans (which was over subscribed by foreign banks btw). Still, 23% is short of their 34% growth in 2011. Rising interest rates is also an issue.

IMHO SAMP is an OK share at current levels, but you might have to hold for a long time. I sold all of my SAMP shares hoping it would come down a bit more in coming 3-6 months. But I could be wrong. It's up to you to decide Smile

Cheers!

Yes, if you are an investor who likes to hold this for next two years. We will be able see improvements in SAMP bottom line from next 3-4 quarter onwards when newly opened branches contribute to profit margin.

Even, for past earnnings this is not a bad pick at this moment but don't expect quick gains and there is a possibility to drop the price bit further.

Our market is a very small market. Therefore market is not that efficient. If the price fell by 5 LKR today does not mean that the value of the company gone down. The business will worth the same like yesterday. I am sure you will agree that SAMP is in its growth stage and will improve their profits in next few Qs / years. Here people are interested in investing not trading. I believe this company has a very bright future.

Really good share to buy. Just declared Rs.4.50 per share. Should have bought when it was @ 170's, but still this is a really good price for Sampath. Undervalued as well, so we can expect it to go little bit up in the near future, especially before 2nd of April

At present SAMP Is the 3rd largest commercial bank, and I think 2nd place is imminent, surpassing HNB. In medium to long run it will reach the top position.
SAMP slowly converting into a true universal banking and finance conglomerate with building its muscles. They got licence for Insurance and Merchant banking and to be take off in 2012.SAMP already has leasing, factoring and stock brokering in their portfolio in addition to commercial banking products. Yes SAMP will bring you real sampath in years to come.

I'm leaving banks out for this year. High deposit rates and 18% credit growth could hamper their growth.

Why the hell SAMP has to go down to 140 next year?
When u say something u should give a reason as to why..

I respect the fact that u may be a matued, experience investor/trader than us, but even how much mature u are or the years in experience you have, just talk bearish of all the shares may allow you to position your self as a prominent joker in the forum.. I mean there's a rational to all of our thought know? Or else we call it gut feeling sometimes Wink

SAMP can come down to 150s if we see ASI around 4700... So investers should grab these shares as much cheaper as they could...

I like the aggressive expanding of sampath. I'm really tempted with it.

On banking/insurance sector JINS too seems good with P/E of 6.4 In long term both of these could be winners.

if you have bought @182 then thats fine .perhaps you looked at fundamentals and bought it.i dont see any technical reason behind it.but if you have bought after carefully assessing then its another reason altogether not to mention some inside info Laughing for me there is no reason to buy at 172 again unless some buying pressure that will make stocks to be above the MA at that level.i always like to be on the side of the trend when i enter. and not the opposit.i would like you to re assess and decide carefully where you will place your buy orders Cool if i were you i will place my orders as follows;

1st LOT @ 170/- (You already bought at 182/-)
2nd LOT @ 135/-
3rd LOT @ 95/-

Each time averaging to reflect market price.

I will sell them off @ 200/-, 240 and @285 Very Happy

But i will trade using my own funds and to with MARGIN.as i very shrewd to give money to the broker other than his due brokerage.

but i like to advise to hold on the share and wait for the crossing of stock price the MA to purchase more as this will be the safest as you will be trading with the momentum.

Wink
