for the year 2021 there are 13 full moon holidays. Why not consider to remove the Poya holidays except for Wesak (2 days) and Poson. This will increase the productivity by 11 days and the number of manpower hours gained would be massive.

Yes I fully agree. Keep the 3 main poya days as holidays (Vesak, Poson & Esela) and rest should be normal working days. I think the whole idea of poya being holidays is to encourage people to observe Sil. But we all know only a very small percentage of working crowd observe sil on poya days except for perhaps Vesak. Also SL’s Buddhist population is probably only around 60-65% now out of which many are non-practicing Buddhists as well. So its counter productive to have many poya days as holidays. 

Anywa Sri Lanka has way to many holidays in general, not only Poya but also other religious days being given as bank holidays which is detrimental to productivity of the country due to start/stop nature and long weekends. 

But this is a very sensitive topic, politicians will never attempt to curtail these holidays - but something that should be done.
