HERD INSTINCT.. ia a mentality that is distinguished by a lack of individual decision making  or introspection causing people to think and behave in similar fashion to those around them. the fear of missing out on a profitable investment idea is often the driving force of behind HERD INSTINCT.
Now have a good took at your portfolio and see how many of them end up in your one because of herd  instinct.
NEXT... this is normal behavior for humans so what is the big deal?
OK..in cse we have 1. Institution investors
                             2.foriegn investors
                             3.retailers
4.HNWI --- out of those 4 players 1. first two in the selling side .
                                                                               2. last two in the buying side.
NOW is the interesting part of the game.
HNWI can use retailer's  herd instinct to their advantage easily since other 2 players are going opposite direction.
EXAMPLE- xxx share  trading at 120, HNWI'S buy this at this level and promote through few broker huts as BUY, then bring up the price to 200,show some big BUY orders in the order book ,HERD INSTICT kick in price goes up to 500 ,HNWI'S dump the share with hefty profits on the HERD.(long story short)
This is just 'FOOD FOR THOUGHT' for the weekend. thanks.

You are absolutely right. Not a lot of new investors know this method of players putting both buy and sell orders at the same time to create a fake buying demand and push prices up and then dump their shares at a higher price.

looking at the order books at this time can clearly see there's not much buying interest in the market. Players are not on the buying side. They are waiting for retailers to get panicked and sell low. They will come and scoop up these bargains soon and then drive the prices back up.

I think the real problem here is over heated stocks like LOLC,BIL,VONE and SPLIT shares. Time to time they come down to realistic levels with big market correction but when market try to recover retailers blindly jump into the same stocks ,pushing their prices to unrealistic levels again. until we come out of this cycle we are not going to see the next level.

I agree with you that a lot of stocks went too far. And the rate of appreciation was too steep.

But if you look at split stocks - those are still well within a fair value considering the earnings , except one or two.
Split scare just undermined the performance !

Herd instinct also act in good way too, who frustrated and decided to leave the market for ever, change their mind and start panic buying much faster than others soon when the market moves up, that is the ongoing nature.
Be fearless and hold it and also expect 10-20% losses too.

I don't think so LOLC is trading cheap at present and future earnings.

This is a good example of LOLC holding investment

Joint venture Investment in "Ceylon Graphite"

The first Graphene and Advanced material company in Sri Lanka, Ceylon Graphene Technologies (Pvt) Ltd was established in June 2018. It is a joint venture of LOLC Group and Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC) that aims to place Sri Lanka in the global market for graphene and associated products. With the best quality Graphite in the world being mined from the rich fields of Sri Lanka, Ceylon Graphene Technologies (Pvt) Ltd is steadily establishing itself as the manufacturer of high-quality Graphene and carbon based Advanced material.

Graghene's future looks very  bright but how to produce it in commercial  scale is ..???? First graphene  Australia is trading at 0.0.24AUD..
