I may be wrong.lets discuss and share here to get the right information

Its not the Q2Q looked at. The Companies that gaining massively is shipping container lines like MSC, HAPPAGLLOYD, CMACGM.

Freight forwarding and other logistic services are loosing margins due to competition. MSC gives the best direct rates to USA lanes. and the Freight forwarding companies competes for space and rates including EXPO. MSC would give the space for those who offers high rate. Now the freight forwarders has to sell this rate to Exporters, who will not take high rates.

So to keep the volume they have to cut the margins to gain some advantage from liners. This started from July 2020. Every month there was a GRI and expected to come down from March 2021. But its not happening. During May 20201 liners increased the cost further

But from mid-May, several container shipping lines announced increases in transportation fees from 400 USD to more than 1,000 USD per container......In April, the popular freight rates to the west coast of the US was around 5,000 USD per 40-foot container. However, the quotation is now more than 10,000 USD.  https://www.hellenicshippingnews.com/shipping-lines-continue-to-increase-fees-firms-face-more-difficulties/

Now . this is also due to a reason that lines are not willing to come to Sri Lanka. but giving their space to destinations giving high rates like India. Secondly this demand is created artificially by liners

There is a whole dirty story going behind the scene with this International Lineres to reap and kill the maximum out of countries like us

Please check where EXPO fits in this business. What if Export drops , will they have enough shipments to report revenue. What gives the confidence in EXPO is its a share for our future investment not a sort term trade. With these turbulent environment they are going very strongl. This is what Investors looking at in EXPO at the moment, and EXPO has it

This is the same reason I am expecting our exporters will loose profits, especially like DIPD if the Average Selling Price for gloves internationally is coming down whilst the shipping cost going up

Hi Hawkeye,

I DO NOT agree with your opinion.

EXPO channels only 10% of EXPORT from SL. EXPO PRIMARY MARKET is on the US imports from Asia. E commerce as well as General growth in retail sector such as Amazon, Alibaba, etc created significant demand for forwarders like EXPO since customer wants the goods relatively faster. Additionally, due to C19 risk, people order via ONLINE and get it delivered through a forwarder.

For example, brands like apple, black & decor and electronic items moves through EXPO.

"South East Asia third party logistics market accounted for US$ 36.4 Bn in 2017 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% over the forecast period 2018-2025, to account for US$ 55.7 Bn in 2025. The demand for third party logistics services is largely influenced by the rise in the number of retail and e-commerce players in the developing economies across the globe. Also, rapid industrialization leads to prompt infrastructural developments which further impacts positively on thriving the overall economy"

Export Volumes
-------------------
I don’t think there’s an issue with exports dropping at all from Asia to rest of thw world mainly due to comprative low cost production ability. What is the alternative for USA and EUROPE consumers??

Shippers increasing fees is good for forwarders usually since customers know the prices are increasing in the market and have to abide by new rates due to low supply in the market but high volumes needed to export.

That is why share price of major forwarding companies in the globe (DHL, Expeditors) have increased sharply since May 2021 recongnizing this clear advantage to profits well in advance. SG HOLDING(mother co. of EXPO) also surged and recorded a sharp growth since May.

Good Luck

Hi Account,

To be honest I don’t know the make up of SPEN business.

Usually the forwarders have low NP Margins. SPEN has forwarding as well as maritime. Maritime usually provides higher margins.

Extracting from your analysis, SPEN has a NEGATIVE TOP LINE GROWTH but they have improved in NP in 2021. This could be NOT from core business. In contrast, EXPO had an amazing TOP LINE GROWTH YoY. The NP margins also increased by more than three-folds to 7%.

Good Luck

yes, Expo has more room to appreciate both technically and fundamentally. Keep in touch with Expo.
And investing Expo like Dollar earning company you will protect your money  against rupee depreciation risk. So investing EXPO you get more protection for your money than investing in gold.

Drewry’s latest Container Forecaster report has carried out a massive upgrade of liner profits for the full year.
Drewry is now forecasting the container shipping industry will post a record $80bn profit in 2021, up from earlier forecasts of $35bn. If freight rates surpass expectations in the remainder of the year, Drewry said an annual profit line in the region of $100bn is not out of the question, more than three times the all-time liner record.
“2021 will be the first year in the history of container shipping when carrier profits approach $100 billion and average freight rates jump by 50%, against a background of huge operational disruptions to the port and ship systems,” the UK consultancy noted.
Drewry predicts that box volumes will continue to rise through the Q3 peak season and to end the year with annual growth of approximately 10%, cementing what has been a banner, record year for the industry.

The world has run out of white swans, and there is now a $2,000 surcharge to even secure a black swan

“We are now getting accustomed to seeing triple-digit annual growth rates for spot rates on most lanes. That these instances are no longer shocking is further proof, if needed, that the market truly is crazy right now,” the UK analysts noted.
As far as 2022 goes, Drewry suggests there will still be growth, but probably only about half as strong as consumer spending is expected to move back towards services as Covid-related restrictions are lifted. For 2022, Drewry expects EBIT to drop by a bit more than one-third due to softening freight rates and rising costs that may stay higher for longer with many carriers locking into expensive longer-term charter fixtures.
Looking further ahead, Drewry maintains the view that high levels of newbuild contracting for 2023 pose a risk of overcapacity returning to the market during that year, but future supply requirements are heavily clouded by new environment regulations due to become law at the start of 2023, that may or may not see significant chunks of the containership fleet slowdown in order to comply.
“[Carrriers] will have made so much money between 2020-22 that they will be set up for years to come. They could potentially make as much profit in this window as they could have hoped in a decade, or more,” Drewry concluded.
Looking at the $100bn profit figure posited by Drewry, Lars Jensen, CEO of container advisory Vespucci Maritime, suggested that container shipping was set to make up for 20 years of value destruction in the space of a single year.
In 2018, McKinsey published a report looking at the pprevious 20 years of profitability in the container shipping industry. The report from three years ago estimated that the liner industry had destroyed more than $100bn in shareholder value over the previous 20 years.
Shippers hoping this year was a temporary blip and a return to the low rates of the previous decade are in for a disappointment, Jensen suggested via LinkedIn.
The “new normal” for container shipping will see rates higher than before the pandemic, Jensen predicted. This new normal would feature less overcapacity thanks to the huge consolidation seen in the sector in recent years.

The decades where carriers – on average – were selling freight below full cost levels are over

“The decades where carriers – on average – were selling freight below full cost levels are over,” Jensen maintained.
Alan Murphy, founder of box consultancy Sea-Intelligence, writing in his company’s regular Sunday Spotlight newsletter, discussed today’s unprecedented liner environment.
“Economists like to refer to unpredictable and wide-impacting events as ‘Black Swans’, adopted from the epistemological challenge to inductivist philosophy that knowledge must come from more than just pure empiricism: If your world view is built on the notion ‘all swans we have ever seen are white, and, therefore, all swans must be white’, then your world is going to break when you spot a black swan, common to Australia,” Murphy wrote, adding: “Any model built to predict the future of container shipping has been designed in a world populated entirely with white swans, and suddenly, the world has run out of white swans, and there is now a 2,000 dollar surcharge to even secure a black swan.”
Patrik Berglund, the CEO of freight rate benchmarking platform Xeneta, commented today: “Carriers unquestionably have the upper hand and are in a strong position to exploit the budgets of big volume shippers.” Berglund said shippers should brace themselves for the carriers’ and forwarders’ Q2 financials.
“It will be a joyful moment for the sellers, but painful for the rest of the market,” Berglund warned.

"Freight Rates keep climbing because demand and volumes have continued to stay at peak levels. This is all before the ‘traditional’ peak season expected in Q3/Q4 are factored into the supply chain equation"

Mostly I believe, EXPO will earn above the Rs.10 earnings per share during 2021/22, with adding further higher rates in peak season Q3/Q4.
Compare to last quarter, current rates are in peak and EXPO's Q1 results can be massive.

We assign EXPO a BUY rating with an FY22E TP of LKR 65.00. The pandemic induced demand supply dislocation in the global freight market persists with air and ocean freight rates hitting fresh highs in recent months. Bulk of the global air freight capacity remains grounded, with long-haul passenger travel depressed due to international travel restrictions. Add to that, container vessel shortages and ongoing port delays are having spillover effects on supply chains worldwide. At the start of the pandemic, EXPO benefited due to, 1) strong demand for PPE equipment – these had to be transported quickly from factory floors to source markets in large volumes, 2) EXPO’s business is tilted to air freight and this gave the company good exposure to the PPE opportunity, 3) consumer demand in the U.S. market normalised quickly and freight capacity shortages translated to strong yields. Though, it appears that EXPO merely benefited from unexpected circumstances, we believe the company’s prudent expansion strategy and several years of strategic development of partnerships with carriers had positioned it well to benefit from the current conditions. We believe EXPO’s growth story has further room to run in FY22E. The reasons are: 1) 80%+ of EXPO’s business exposure is in the U.S., and most of it is consumer facing; U.S. consumer spending remains robust heading into the crucial summer and holiday season in 2H, 2) Retail inventory ratios are at its lowest levels since 1992 and there is a rush for replenishment, and 3) Air freight rates will remain elevated albeit with some moderation as a large portion of longhaul capacity will remain grounded in 2021

Finally, Asia Securities has done a superb analysis and re-valued EXPO to it's next stage.
I am now more happy, because I have continuously monitored and highlighted the EXPO, because in early stage, I saw its business growth plan + expansions in worldwide, rather than increase of shipping rates.

As per Asia report,
"We recommend a BUY on EXPO with a TP of LKR 65.00
The share price has seen strong gains over the past year, in line with the
company’s record outperformance in FY21. Our estimates for FY22E factor in
new business growth, regular trade, and elevated air and ocean freight rates.
We value EXPO at 8.0x our FY22E EPS estimate, giving us a target price of LKR

65.00/share. Including a dividend of LKR 2.25, we derive a TSR of +32.1%. BUY"

Finally, they valued EXPO at 8 PE, but currently trading at 6 - 7 range, means clearly undervalued now.
But considering market conditions, mostly I believe, EXPO are now position to release more than 3 Rupee earnings for the quarter and mostly it can go above 10 EPS for FY 21/22.
So, price can be go above the Asia's target.

Thanks

Why EXPO should move ?

When company earns around 4 Bn for quarterly in last year, EXPO has hit all time high price of Rs.64.60.
With the increase of Freight rates during 2021 (rates are almost double with compare to year 2020), mostly EXPO can generate more.
Therefore, mostly EXPO should break earlier high and can reach above.

Just check the CSE daily and we can see 1 Million EXPO shares are crossing at 54.90. This is another good sign.
CROSSINGS 16.07.2021 :
EXPOLANKA   1,000,000 x   54.90 =   54,900,000.00

Q1 of 2021 result presentation for parent company (SG HOLDINGS) is due on 30th July 2021 & its share price almost up 25% within two months (JY 2400 to JY 3015). This is another good indication.

EXPO’s main Revenue/profit generator is North America’s trade line. Mainly They operates based with 04 main cities. Just going thru its recent market report and all indications giving for further Freight rates uptrend even next quarter.

CHICAGO
Ocean Freight Rates - There is an increase in rates. FAK Spot Premium Rates continue to increase for the 1st half of July with no indication of a stabilization/decrease. EFL is working closely with all carrier partners to provide solutions in the premium spot market and to secure FAK space.

Air Freight Rates - There is an increase in rates. Rates have increased with a further increase expected in July. Spot market is the guaranteed way to get a ship on-board. Getting a ship on-board with NAC rates is challenging due to blank sailings announced for the beginning of July.

NEW YORK
Air Freight Rates - There is an increase in rates. There is a large increase in rates due to a market that is currently peaking and space/capacity remains very tight. Most carriers take express bookings for cargo to move sooner than 10-14 days from origin. Qatar airways announces FSC with effect from 7/1 on chargeable weight.

Ocean Freight Rates - There is an increase in rates. FAK Spot Premium Rates continue to increase for the 1st half of July with no indication of a stabilization or decrease. EFL works closely with carrier partners to provide solutions in the premium spot market to secure FAK space.

LOS ANGELES
Air Freight Rates - There is an increase in rates. Rates have increased due to a rise in demand for airfreight and ocean to air conversions.

Ocean Freight Rates - There is an increase in rates. FAK Spot Premium Rates continue to increase for the 2nd half of June with the same expected to continue with a further increase in July. TPEB rates rose by 25% to USEC and 15% to USWC.

MIAMI
Air Freight Rates - There is an increase in rates. Rates continue to increase due to limited space and the fuel price hikes.

Ocean Freight Rates - There is an increase in rates. Over 40+ blank sailings have been scheduled through June. The situation with the COVID outbreak in Yantian leads to further backlogs out of the S. China Sea where there are over 45 vessels at anchor waiting to berth in Yantian (Southeast Asia countries where carriers sail from into Yantian).
