More than 90% of the counters are good in long term. It’s pretty oblivious that most of these companies are expanding.

It is utterly pointless if you pay double the price for a junk thinking it will worth what you paid after another 5 years...!

Instead of expanding with the company, most people jump ahead 5 years and asking why companies do not come to their position.

There are lot statements asking why XXX is going down or why XXX is not appreciating.
What people cannot understand is companies cannot double revenue by doing well in just one or two Qs. Sometimes it takes 2-3 years.

Nice to see you finally understand this as well! Seems like I'm the only one here that don't use the words great in long term or medium long term! All the people that suck at CSE do is to justify their stupid decisions by saying that xx share is great in long term when the prices plummet! ( Take for example the GRAN case few months back )

Why would you buy a share even for long term at price Rs 100 if you can by the share at Rs 60 in 2 week time ?

at last it seems that people have realized there is nothing called long term which does not have a proper definition either. When you say long term how long is the question ??? is it 1-2 years ? 5-6 years ? or 10-12 years ? or until you die ? all these are long term. So d not be stupid. Do trading unless you are in a mind of getting in to the management of a company by acquiring the shares.

Regulators forced me to sell all the good counters & go for overpriced IPOs. They also asked me to keep diversified sector P/E value over 25.
Manipulators threaten me to buy PAP @ Rs 8, LOFC @ Rs 20, PMB @ Rs 40, CLND @ 50, DPL @ 120 & SING @ Rs 4000

ha...if there is nothing called long term investment and if all are supposed to do only short-term trading, then I don't see any difference between the stock exchange and 'buru pola'!!!

I agree there is no need to pay a premium even for a long term investment, like Rajitha said (and UKboy implied) you should know the correct price to enter.

Also there are people who are becoming long-term investors due to errors made in short-term trading - they are forced long-term investors and not genuine!

There is nothing like long term investment is only for acquiring companies and/or taking management control of companies. That is strategic investment rather than long term investment. If you want proof, go and check the first twenty share holders of the companies who don't have management control and see how long they are keeping the investment intact. They must be loosers then!

UKBoy never said long term investments are bad. What he is trying to say is, don't pay premium for next 5 years. I am a medium to long term investor. More than 50% of investments are medium to long term investments. It doesn't mean that I am not doing short term trading. I do short term trading and day trading too. But I never chased a rally. Market needs all kind of players (investors, traders, speculators etc..)

Yes Monster, UKboy's original post does not suggest long term investments are bad. His opinion is that there is no point paying a premum in advance just because it is a long term investment which I also fully agree.

As you correctly said, there should be all types of players in a healthy market to sustain and develop its growth.
