I collected 10,000 UBC shares at 25.00. It had a very high demand at the initial offering.Also, they have opened new branches in colombo after the IPO. So, my personal view is it may go up to touch 40.00 very soon. (' Laughing

')

Share wont go up just because they opened new branches.. Profitbility of a bank can not be judged by the number of branchs the bank has.. Take HSBC for an example.. They have few branches but highly profitable.. In my personal view, UBC is over priced..

it'll touch40 soon if 40 comes after 24 Very Happy

( Just kidding)
my personal idea is it'll take some time to touch 40, may be more than a year. I also holding 4900 shares at avg cost of 36.50 & planing to sell at a loss soon & jump to another.
this I bought when I started & experience I got from this is more valuable than the loss.

Please not that I'm not an expert & this is my personal view,

Well friend at 40 it is over valued, but when comparing with the some of the stocks at CSE i will say even uBC 40 is under valued, but i don't thing it will touch 40 soon unless it is manipulated. But there are some investors who bought this one at 31 at private placement as well

If you can buy more and more,this will go up at least 30 level,otherwise no reason to touch 40 very soon.But at CSE reasons dont matter, it can hit even 100 if manipulated. PABC trading at around same price,i go for PABC instead of UBC.

Please do not use the word "will" for forecasts.

"Will" is a auxiliary verb in English which means something happens in future. Since no one can predict the market precisely the word "will" is not used to express opinions. Instead words "would", "could" are used in expressing opinion on future uncertain events. Those words mean future+uncertainty associated with the statement.

Simply in professional ethics, use of "will" to describe uncertain future event is unethical practice. Use of such word may trigger Professional Conduct inquires for members of reputed finance professional bodies.

You can if you clearly state it is an opinion. For example

Writing "X will go up" is wrong.

Writing "My opinion is that it will go up" is not wrong.

However, the best practice is writing "My opinion is that it may/would go up"

As I could remember, their last financial results were really good to consider this as an investment. But the worry should be; at a PE ratio over 40, this has already marked for future growth as well.
We really need to compare the PE with other banks such as COMB, SAMP, NTB and also with PABC to see how they have worked.
Again, capital and loan capacity of these banks may vary; so for investments, we need a good analysis..
30-32 could be an expected figure in a moving market..

I agree with Academic, we cannot be certain about future direction of stocks, therefore we have to be mindful of the words used when giving stock tips.

UBC is a good share although it had performed badly due to improper IPO strategy. UBC together with CIMB bank in Malaysia expected to set up an Investment Bank in Sri Lanka. This is initially expected to be a JV and subsequently be merged into UBC. Alex Lovell is likely to be Chairman of the company. Soon there will be a press conference to this effect. Their new office is likely to be at the WTC.

I believe that current UBC price is fully valued and short term upside may be limited. But you never know, things go up due to factors other than it's real value.

Does it make a difference? Let the writer choose his writing style. We are not in kindergarden.. I wish if I were.. :lol: I think we all know that it is only his opinion and he can not be sure about it.
